Can't remove the knobs on the pots of the Infinity RS-6001

Hi there

I'm trying to restore a pair of Infinity RS 6001. The pots on one crossover are very scratchy and I want to give them a good clean. However, I cannot remove the knobs so I can get to the pots themselves. I've tried applying some heat with a hair dryer, I've tried dribbling some Isopropyl Alcohol in there, can have tried sliding some dental floss in there and looping it around and pulling, but can't get them to budge.

Does anyone know if there is a trick to them? Were they glued in place or something?

I've attached a photo of the offending knobs. Any help gratefully appreciated.

And you're positive there isn't a set screw hidden somewhere, correct? Just to check that box :)

Perhaps someone help you out with some type of glue. :dunno:

I'm pretty sure now there is no set screw or anything, so I'm thinking they are glued to the shaft, either by the previous owner or maybe they came like this from the factory

You won't be able to clean pots from the front shaft even if you remove the knob. You will need to remove the entire crossover assembly and clean them from the back. There is usually a small opening in the "can" that you can squirt some De-Oxit into and clean them properly.

thanks - I had removed the crossover assembly and was wanting to remove the knobs so I could then remove the pots to give them a good clean. One of the pots looks like your picture and so I can try the little opening to give it a clean, but the other pot is a bigger one and so I'm not too sure how to clean this one. Here is a picture of the rear of the assembly and the two pots
