Carver C-4000 Preamp Help

I just received a Carver C-4000 preamp at no cost. The unit had a blown fuse when I picked it up but was otherwise very clean. After changing the fuse the Carver generates no sound and the limited lights (only 3, 1 for PK Unlimit, 1 for Correlation Auto Thershold and 1 for Correlation Thershold manual) do not illuminate.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to getting the preamp up and running.

Thanks

If you can find a schematic (I don't have one) and do some troubleshooting using a multi-meter, that would be a start.

Are you wanting to DIY, or just say the heck with it, and send it in?

Post some pics! We may be able to point you in a direction on where to start. Sinse you say it had a blown fuse, I would start in the area around the power supply.

Thanks for the direction. The Carver site with both the owner's and service manuals will help. The owner's manual I received from the orignal owner is stamped "Preliminary" and looked like a rough draft with hand drawn diagrams, almost cartoons and no photos or help at all. Photos will be load once I open it open. Thanks again!

The C-4000 has a LOT of buttons, any of which could mute the sound. Make sure all buttons are in their OUT position to start. Connect a good source to the TUNER input and select that input. Turn all other knobs to the minimum position ( except balance ). Hook up a good amp and speakers and see if you get music. That preamp is daunting trying to read the letters on the knobs and buttons and if you're not familiar with the c-4000 it's very easy to mute or turn off the sound. I've the the service manual and operators manual if you need copies.
