I don't believe that this machine was actually made by Nakamichi. Instead, it uses the same Sankyo transport as do many latter Naks, which has led to this widspread misunderstanding.

Assuming that your deck is based on the Sankyo mechanism, then you merely need to replace the "tire" on the idler inside of the deck. The so-called "small" Nak tire is the correct replacement part for the Sankyo mechanisms.

You can find instructions online for how to do perform this fix.

Hi Goldear!
I read, that this deck should be the last Nak-Made-for-onkyo tapedeck... sounded as if others before also have been. but - doesn't matter.

where and whith what search-idiom i can find info about it?

update...

Hi

it winds... weak at first and with a little help.... seems to be some clutch that won't grip or a something that disconnects when resist is too strong, which may be can adjusted somewhere...

it gets stronger and stronger... it winds complete and has no starting probs any more... cool :)

i check the other one now.

Helge,

Yes, that is defintely the exact-same transport that the Nakamichi BX-300 uses. And as I stated before, this is a Sankyo mechanism that Nakamichi used from the Mid 80s onward, regardless of what it may say on it.

The problem is the tire on your idler. This causes exactly the symptoms you have described. You access it by removing front-plate inside of the cassette-well (be careful not to loose the screws inside of the machine when you remove this plate!). You will be able to clearly see the idler-wheel and tire when you remove this plate. Several Ebay sellers sell "Nak Tires". for about $7.00 each. You just need to replace this little rubber part, (and you need the one that they call the "small Nak tire") and your deck will run like new again.

now i know how to repair... the source for the tire (i'll order two) and both are working now after cleaning the idler tire.... the first better, the other ok.

btw - it looks quite different, for exemple the pulley is plastic, no brass...

i will give the better to the mother of my kids who asked a few days before were to get a tapedeck... its her birthday in octobre so it will be a nice early present. And if it will fail, i 'll have the part to repair!

Thx Goldear!!

I've seen that minor variation on some other non-Nak Sankyo tranports before. But the tires are the same. Cleaning will help for a short while, but a new tire is the cure.

Note: I recommend cleaning the new Nak tire after replacing it, as these can sometime arrive in an overly slippery state.

the onkyo ta 2070 is a realy good tapedeck i still got allot tapes i recorded with it worth getting fixed also no nak
