Connecting an EQ to a Harman Kardon 330 help please!

Hello,
I'm a beginner and having trouble figuring out how to connect my Realistic Spectrum EQ to a HK 330. I want to use this with my Numark TT100 to play my 78s. I couldn't get the EQ to work unless I put the phono in the tape amp., but then the volume output is really cut down. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks20190216_162803.jpg

Hi, it looks like you have it connected properly. EQ's are supposed to be connected to the tape loops and it looks like yours is connected correctly. Let's see some full view pics of your set up. We might be able to see something you missed on either connections or controls.

Your turntable needs to be connected to the phono inputs. If your turntable has a magnetic cartridge, this is why your sound level is so low when using the tape aux input.

Set your selector switch to phono and then make sure the EQ's controls are set to EQ in.

I do have the speakers set up on number 2.

Speaker selection has absolutely no bearing on what you have connected to the inputs. If you only have one pair of speakers and they are connected to speaker 2 outputs, then you simply select speaker 2 on the speaker switch(s).

Underneath the power button on the EQ is the in/bypass switch. To hear the EQ, make sure your selector switch on the HK is set to tuner, make sure the tape monitor switch on the HK is in the in or on position, and the EQ bypass switch is in the in or on position.

Since your EQ looks properly connected, it's probably more of operator error at this point.

Have everything set, it's still quiet. Have the volume set to max, and is much quieter than when I didn't have the EQ plugged in, and the turntable was plugged in the Phono of the HK. I could only turn the volume up 1/4 before it was too loud. Would a pre amp some my problem? Here's another photo of the front settings.20190216_171420.jpg 20190216_171429.jpg

Hmm, with everything connected correctly, the EQ itself could be faulty. Do you have another integrated amp or receiver to try it on? A friend or neighbor maybe?

Let me start over, things got messed up. Here is the front settings, the EQ works, but is quite. The bypass is not pushed in. If it is pushed in, the EQ stops working.

I assume the red/white wires in the first picture are from the turntable?
Does the turntable have an internal preamp?
If it does have an internal preamp is it switched on?
If not, those wires should be hooked up to the phono jacks.

Work on one problem at a time.

First, unplug the eq until the turntable is working.

Now, does your turntable have a built in phono preamp? Look at your manual or for a switch on the back. Get back to us.

Once that's solved, we'll move on to the equalizer.

So, what do you have on your turntable? Preamp or not?

Ok, TT does not have a pre amp. I have it plugged in the HK in the phono ports, works fine. EQ is unhooked. Volume is loud at around quarter turn.

If the tt is working it's hooked up properly.

Receivers tape out into eq's main in

Eq's main out to receiver's Mon in.

Center all sliders on the eq and max out the level control.

Push in the tape monitor. It should work.

If it doesn't, the eq has problems.

Now connect the EQ back up the way you had it. If there is no problem with the EQ itself, it should work. All EQ's can be used and should work with all tape loops. I have not yet encountered one that does not. If yours is connected properly, all the right buttons and switches are pressed, then it tends to lead to the EQ itself as the problem.

EDIT: Was typing the same time The Skipper also noted that it could be the EQ.

Here's how everything was set and plugged in, nothing. Could it be the reciever tape monitor ports?15503680302433593278097652972198.jpg 15503680728776923515065692540000.jpg 15503681004172068683447074677085.jpg

OK, something to check. Are any of those Tape Monitor buttons pushed in? If so toggle them back out. Also Make sure that EQ Record button is in the out position too.
