Connecting tv to vintage receiver

I have my tv connected to my JVC JR-S301 receiver from the late 70s using RCA cables. The wife keeps complaining that it’s a pain to use because you have to get up to adjust the volume on the stereo since the tv control doesn’t effect it. Is there a easy solution for this ? I’ve been reading up on it and it seems I’m best just buying a used AV receiver to use for my tv sound.

Does the tv have a headphone jack? If so that output is variable, you can plug into the the headphone jack using this.

Have you checked in the TV settings menus if there is an option to have fixed level or variable output?

No headphone jack but good idea. I’ve looked through the menus and it looks like the audio output is fixed only.

Tell wife that tiny bit of exercise won't be fatal to either one of you. It'll be ok, just set volume in advance & leave it!

The problem is the volume fluctuates so much in movies. I watch a lot of war films and it will be quiet one second then explosions and gunfire so I need to turn it down lol

Would a AV receiver help keep the volume more steady? I find foreign films are the worst for it

An AV receiver will have dynamic range settings that will help. My satellite box has dynamic range settings maybe your source has them too.

Most of them have a menu setting to allow the audio output to be variable. If it doesn't, headphone jack is the alternate.

Think I will look for a used account receiver for tv, the steady sound option will come in handy

from what I read my issue may be not having a centre channel speaker, i guess many shows and movies are optimized for the vocals to be centre channel.

I have that same line level MCM brand IR remote controlled volume adjuster..
Though I`ve never used it, my next door neighbor picky B-I-L is been borrowing it for a month now and likes it very well, and will purchase one when they are back in stock.

Bummer. Check menus for enhanced sound settings too, some of those spacial effects hurt center dialog levels and over accentuate surround (out of phase) elements.

Great suggestions here including the remote IR volume controller. As @70's Rockfan has shown, shop Amazon but look elsewhere to buy!

I use a dbx 118 on a tape monitor loop to compress the dynamic range of shows. Might want to look into a 117, 118 or 119 model. Also a fan of the 262 which can at times be found really cheap. You'll need 1/4 inch phone plug to phono jack adapters if you go that route.

I ended up getting a used AV receiver for a good price to use for my tv and it was well worth the money. Having the different DSP options for watching movies has really helped.
