DCM Time Window Speakers - What are they worth today

Well the latest on these DCM TW speakers. The owner is either a scammer or a jerk. I wanted to setup an audition of the speakers to test the drivers and crossovers, asked if he could demo them. His response was that he didn’t have equipment to be connected. I offered to bring equipment to test them. No response for 18 hours, then he responds to say he has sold them. So either he is a scammer or a jerk. Either way, no DCM TW for me. Oh well, the search continues!
Scammer or jerk? Wow. Maybe he sold them to somebody else with fewer contingencies. Good luck with the hunt!

Well jberger,

I only call him a scammer or a jerk because of his actions. He provided very little info. or communication about the whole possible sale. Then, after responding with only one word responses during the whole discussion he makes no obvious attempt to even advise me that he had another buyer that was looking (if indeed that actually happened).

Incidentally, his ad is still running, kind of ironic since it's been over 48 hours since he advised me of the sale to another buyer.

Ultimately, a little courtesy goes a long way! Just my opinion. I would be much more considerate if I was a seller.

And I'm pretty sure we all have experienced scammers these days, if you haven't then you have been very lucky.

Thanks

Don

Don, I've had several pairs of DCMs over the years and most sounded really nice, but yes they are a pain to work on if they need arises. Always liked Dahlquist slightly more anyway, but what made me sell my mint condition pair of TW1a were the Vandersteen 2CE which I still have. If you can find a pair of modestly priced Vandies, I think you would like them over all the other speakers in your collection, plus they still support many of their older models and Rich will email you if you have any questions.

Hello Silvernutsaq,

Thanks very much for your suggestion. I haven’t seen many used Vandies come up for sale in my vicinity but I will keep my eyes open. Thing is I audition a pair probably 15 years ago in a showroom and I wasn’t really impressed. Maybe it was the room, maybe it was the wrong model, I am not sure. I will keep an eye open for a pair of 2CE.

For me this is a lifelong hobby. I am interested in the DCM speakers because many have praised them and I have never heard them or owned any of them. I am always up for another audition in my journey, some speakers won’t make my list to own and some will come home with me if the price is right. Thus is the spice of life!

Thanks again

Don

Here's some pictures of the inside of my 1A's. As you can see the crossover is attached to the bottom foot. Didn't even have to remove the wires. Just turned the speaker upside down detach the foot, turn it over and the crossover is right there ready to be recapped.

Not much to add here but I’m reading all this while listing to my Time Windows. I bought the originals at the Chicago Electronics show. They always brought extra speakers and didn’t want to cart them back to Ann Arbor so I got sealed boxes for less than retail. They have been sitting in my living room for the last 30 plus years but I recently got back into them ( with new electronics). The tops have some water stains and the covers some rips but the sound is fantastic. Just loving them again. I don’t know anything about replacing or recapping but if you can find a decent pair don’t pass them up.
