Denafrips Pontus thumps when powering on

Hi,
Has anyone else ran into a thump and pop through their speaker or headphone amp when turning on their Pontus? I hear a clear thump that increases with volume. I figure it’s a relay and the capacitors charging. But still it is rather loud. I know the easy workaround is turning on the DAC before the amplifier. Just curious if anyone else experienced the thumping, and if it’s expected or something I should troubleshoot.

Thanks

Ok so this is expected on the Pontus? To clarify, I hear a thump through my speakers, and measure a voltage spike from RCA output when I press the Standby button to turn the DAC on. Is this “standard” for DACs in this price range or class? I don’t think this happens with the Schiit Audio DACs for comparison. If so, I’m surprised but can live with it and just follow the procedure of turning the DAC on first, and off last…

Or can anyone check with their Pontus and let me know if they experience the same thump? I just bought one used and want to know if this is expected on these DACs… would be appreciated to get some feedback on whether or not this is by design…

I’ve heard back from two Pontus II owners who have not experienced thumping through their speakers. I measured a 0.9VDC spike across the L and R RCA output! I am convinced there is something wrong with my Pontus, likely with a relay and/or relay circuit. I have the Pontus I with the upgrade DSP module. I can’t see any difference in terms of the power supply and relay cricuits between the Pontus and Pontus II.

I have a Pontus 15 and there is no thump. Ever.

Thanks for the information.
Let’s say you have your amp volume set to 4 out 10. You’ve selected the input for Pontus. What happens when you bring the Pontus out of standby? Do you hear relays click? And you don’t even hear a light thump through your speakers or headphones? I found out after all this is not a fault, but rather expected because the Pontus does not have a mute relay.
