Denon DP-37F vs. Thorens TD-146 or 160

Hey guys, this is my first post here - been lurking for a while.

So I need to upgrade my turntable from my embarrassing current one. I have a few local options on CL. Which would you guys recommend?

A Denon DP-37F w/ Ortofon OM cartridge for $175

Thorens TD-146 w/ Signet cartridge for $195

Thorens TD-160 w/ no cartridge for $185 (or $250 w/ a Stanton 681)

What would you guys do? Also, what should I offer on these if I do pick one up? Only the 160 comes with a dust cover, and all are in working order/good condition.

I used to have a DP-37. It's ok. You would get tired of looking at the plastic base. Ugh. Sound is good, but it's overpriced. I paid $35 for mine.
Go with the TD-160.

What kind of floor do you have in your residence ?

Do you enjoy working on the turntable ?

These are some issues you should consider ( not targeting the turntables on your list ). :music:

carpeted floor, second story condo.

I don't mind doing some work initially to get a table up and running, and don't mind having regular maintenance and upkeep done. But I'm not looking for something that is going to need a complete overhaul or very regular maintenance to be fully functional.

If he doesn't go for it just get the TD-160 and buy a new cartridge. Unless the Stanton has a new stylus it's not worth spending any more on it.

What is your current "embarrassing" turntable? And don't be embarrassed. Just the fact that you're here automatically redeems you. :)

my current embarrassing table is a Sony PS-LX250H. Bought it used for a few bucks. What makes it even more embarrassing is that it is playing into McIntosh MX113 and MC250, and into Marantz Imperial 7's.

Hey guys, thanks for your help!

I decided to go with the Thorens TD-146. Also, the person I bought it from was user RDecartridge! He was extremely nice and helpful, and answered all my questions and even educated me on a number of topics (I'm fairly new to the audio world). He does a lot of repairs as well, so I'm going to be bringing him my Marantz Imperial 7's to be refoamed. He even recommended me to someone that could build me a custom wood cabinet for my McIntosh MX113!

Thanks RDecartridge!

congratulations. I picked up a 146 from a member here, put an AT440Mla cartridge on it, and thought it was a tremendous upgrade from what I had been using for the last 30 years.
Hope it works out as well for you.
