Very Nice! They looks exceptionally clean. You need the knobs for adjusting the levels at the rear of these? I think they can be ordered somewhere. Let me see if I can find the source for them.

James,
Removed them for cleaning, Whenever I bought any electronic, before hook up them I will open and carried out the visual inspection by the way cleaned. I finding heat sinks are covered by dust, so it’s possible raise the temperatures.
Note: If you look closer above three pictures at the midle one (Picture DSC04273) you can see them!
Tks,
Raj

Never thought I would see that again (even though they are just photos) after 25 years!
I remember walking into this showroom, with very dim lighting, a red velvet curtain at the end of the room but I could have sworn that there was a lady singer standing behind that curtain on the stage of a concert hall, her voice, when it was low, it was rich and voluptuous, when it was high, it was sweet and clear. I couldn't remember what speakers (probably planers or electrostatic) but I remember there was a turntable like a small work bench and speaker cables thick as my wrist but at the centre were these these Denon POA8000. I have been dreaming of these amps many times ever since over the years! Is that enough of an impression of Denon POA8000?

Hi,
:thmbsp: See the below pictures actual of Denon POA-8000, One amp runs hotter than other amp, local electronic shop guy tried to adjust but there was no any improvement, final I adjusted follow SM. The voltage adjustment not easy, pity hard :eek:used two DMM at a time adjust. Finally successfully adjusted and problem solved. The amps run now lower temperature than Kenwood L-07M :guitar::beerchug:

Those POA-8000s are beautiful...

I've got a pair of the POA 4400A monoblocks. The 4400s and 6600s(not the 'A')were supposed to have been designed by Nelson Pass.I've only seen this mentioned once, and never confirmed.

Interesting. The other day I was doing some research on what 'Optical Class A' means, and how it compares to 'pure class A'. Some Denon power amps boast optical class A design, as well as the bigger Denon receivers of that era. I didn't find anything definitive, and what I found was mostly incomprehensible for an electronic layman like myself. There is however, a Nelson Pass patent on an optical class A design that was granted around that time. Nelson Pass worked for a variety of audio manufacturers as consultant. I'd never really heard about a cooperation with Denon, but maybe it just wasn't widely publicized?

Rajkumar - beautiful photos of some beautiful amps! Those POA-8000 are drop dead gorgeous :thmbsp:

Rajkumar, those POA-8000's are simply gorgeous. The smoked translucent covers remind me of the ones used over the engine bay of a Ferrari. Glad to hear you got the excessive heating issue under control. How's it working out with the 100v power? Are you using a power conditioner to deliver that voltage to the POA-8000's? What preamp did you settle on?

Also, those speakers are tremendous. Major vintage look. What are they?

Found matching Denon PRA-6000 preamps. Few weeks ago I found one set of Denon POA 8000 + Denon PRA-6000 in Vietnam Audio Market (Seller not agreed to sale only preamp), at the moment I have 2 pairs of POA-8000 + one PRA-6000, those amps drive Tannoy GRF Memory (Bi-amp) Great sound. (CD player is Marantz CD-7 / Esoteric P30 & D30)
My audio system power supplies used as follow: >> Automatic Servo voltage stabilizer. >> Insulation transformer. >> Step down transformer from 220V to 100V. Denon POA-8000 first pair is 100V version and second pair including Denon PRA-6000 used 220V version.
See attached some pictures.

I'd love to hear your system.

Would your Tannoys sound better if they were spaced further apart? :scratch2:

I’m origin from India, living (working) in Vietnam. My room too narrows (W 5m X L 7m) listening room com bed room. Tannoy GRFM should have big room for perfect listening! Thanks! Raj

Truly beautiful! If you don't mind my asking, what kind of stands are your amps on? I need to find something just like that, and I really like the way those look.

No opinions or advice since I've never listened to them before.

They do, however, look gorgeous.

Who would service such beauties/beasts as these here in the USA?
Be nice to have but if parts and service were not forthcoming could end up being expensive paperweights.:nono: Wonder if there are any "unobtainium" parts in there. The power tranny and the big filter caps would be a tough one. How about the transistors and logic (computer) parts?...

:D This wooden table made in Vietnam, Special order from local furniture shop. The wood from Malaysia wood finishing is natural color (it cost one table around 110 USD):beerchug:

I've had these amps for two years on Altec Nineteens in the eighties.
When I switched to Infinity Q2's it became clear that these kind of loads (Watkins woofer) were no match for the POA-8000's.
They were not so good rated in Germany. They found the Citation XX amp from Otala a much better and far more powerfull amp.
It's not really a Class A amplifier and although they looked pretty I found the Levinson and Threshold amps from that era much better.
Lamps often fail and inside there really nothing special just like the POA-3000 Japanese stuff from that era.
Countdown sequence was copied from the McIntosh MC-2255 the dynamically Class A was copied from Thresholds 800A. The matching pre-amp we also sold in that era wan't much better and mighty complex.

Ask him. Just google Nelson Pass or go on Pass Labs website and send him an e-mail. I've ask him half-a-dozen questions over the years, as recently as about six months ago and he has always responded within a few days.

Can't imagine that he did.
He loathed al those rip-offs as he often expressed in his papers about his products because it was marketing not a real improvement.

Although I was maybe somewhat harsh about the POA-8000's, it was a real and sincere attempt to produce a highend amp by Denon but in my opinion they succeeded only partially. When I had them for a couple of years I did like them but I was pretty unaware of the competition of those days.
Do still have a pretty Denon DP-80 setup though from that era though..
