The ones in the blue box.

For 7" reels these seem to sell for the big bucks. :scratch2:

I'm not an expert but I'd have to say for several reasons. For one Maxell tapes have a long track record of reliability, and great sound. Also the blue boxed reels are the most recent. If I would have known then what I know now I'd bought more of this tape. But 15-20 years ago I was much younger and stupider Ha.

35-180 is the 10½" reel. The 35-90 is the 7" reel.

Whether the 35-90 or 35-90B or the 35-180 or 15-180B,

1) the standard tape many machines were set up for from the factory
2) one of the better tapes back in the day
3) a quality product that is readily available NOS
4) a product that has never been listed on any of the sites that mention problems with tape. this consistent quality even today means buying NOS one will know what they are getting and it will work as they expect.

There is not much that can be said bad about it, it just works and works right.

Yes there is better but that is new production and sells for new tape prices.

Those old Maxells arn't selling for discount prices anymore. Sealed examples are right in line with the new stuff, and sometimes even more expensive.

I see.

Makes sense I guess - but I also think people get carried away at auctions with their bidding. I see two of these UD 7" tapes (still sealed) up to $122.

Over $60 a tape, is that more than the other new tapes or not?
