I'm looking for a pair of Sony speakers earlier than the respected SS-M3/5/7/9 series made in the '90s to complete my vintage All-Sony kit. Anything from the '70/'80 in bookshelf size is what I'm looking for.
I picked up a pair of SS-440's at an Estate Sale a few months back and I would say they sound better than what one might expect from the rep Sony has for speakers.
Accurate Pistonic Motion. Square woofer and film tweeter. After a recap mine sound VERY good, especially with a Magnavox tube amp. Rubber surround so no rot like the bigger APM versions.
"What is required of speakers but that the piston-like motion, vibration plate vibrates exactly signal as the entire band that was responsible to the one you raised. It is a flat diaphragm is SONY has had arrived to pursue this.
The APM speakers, is the speaker tones and square planar woofer Sony has been released until the mid 80's from the late 70's. Round speakers, only Sony had continue to stick the routes of their own these days other manufacturers. However, death is on sale discontinued suddenly why the late 1980s was Mai. Trade-off of development costs seems to have very much influence."
The idea was to move the speaker "cone" in a flat plane. Supposedly there would be less distortion with linear, "pistonic" motion.
Thanks for the recommendations so far. Looks like some good ones. The APM22es monitors meets my needs best so far.
To clarify, I'm looking for bookshelf speakers to stand mount. The electronics are set on a Target Audio UK steel rack, and the monitors will set on their welded, sand filled stands.
Here is a photo of my incomplete All-Sony system.
Dig around the Sony Vault at The Vintage Knob. I know there are a few bookshelf models hiding in the corners. My favorite Sony speakers are my SSU-3000 floorstanders - dome mids & tweeters with a 10" woofer. I think they are from the early 80s/late 70s.
Not sure if they use proprietary connectors or if you can connect them to any preamp output. I have a pair in storage but never got around to setting up my Falcon system.
