Do you put them away right after you enjoy them or what?

Oh, Simi, I have some pictures for you. This is how I had my collection stored for the last two months. Although I will be finishing putting it on the shelf tonight.

Well, that's not pretty, but at least you have it all cleaned up now. Really not a good idea to stack records.

Well, almost, I still have a few sitting but the rest are eather in a box or on the shelf. I am too tired to finish it tonight after helping get my sisters new matris into the house (14" thick full sized with a box spring.)

Well,
I put the vinyl always back into in the sleeve and cover straight away.
Putting the albums back on the shelve is a different matter, most of the time before I go to work and before I go to bed.

Oooo. Pictures! :tears: And you ended up listening to them again while you were putting them away! (I can't seem to put them away without listenting to them again either - they just lure me in again.) Glad to hear they are on the shelf.

Strange thing is that my collection looked like that before, laid flat on top of boxes and stuff, but they were in a garage in New Mexico, in the heat, and they are, for some reason, still okay.

I had them in there because we didn't have room for my old Kenwood linear turntable or records and we had a new addition to the family and so on and so forth (priorities). It also didn't help that I worked 45 miles away, so family time was much harder to come by. After we moved, I shaped up and flew right! My collection first moved out of cardboard boxes into milk crates in the bedroom closet and then into proper shelves in the computer room/office where the Kenwood was hooked up to the computer through a $25 phono preamp. I've since given the Kenwood 'table away to an older gentlemen whose turntable gave up the ghost. I suppose he got a new stylus and is still rocking on. :thmbsp:

I now work five minutes away and have quality family time as well as quality listening time (and a totally new audio rig). It all worked out in the end!

Ok, as promised. Pictures. Not bad for only three months of collecting (at least I think so)

Here is the big one. http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7381/dscf5505ul1.jpg

x_25, Beethoven, Eagles, Chicago, Zeppelin, Stones, Sinatra, Saturday Night Fever, Beatles, Aerosmith, Who, and much more as well as a handful of 7" 45s. Nice and neat and waiting to get played over and over again. What a difference!

Well, it seems my collection's time in the hot garage did some damage after all. I looked at some of my prized Smiths collection tonight and took out a Canadian 'Meat is Murder' album and noticed it was quite warped. It has never been played and was taken out of the shrinkwrap the moment I got it home after initial purchase in Montreal way back when. It was then placed in a 3-mil poly bag designed for gatefold sleeves, so I put an American pressing of the same title right along side it. The American pressing is fine (and a bit thicker vinyl, though not by much) but the Canadian is like a cheap carnival ride! :sigh: That'll teach me to always be kind to my records!

If it was an original copy that was still sealed that might actually be why it's warped.

Immediately!

I used to drink so much there would be records laying all over the place the next morning. Now I am more responsible. This morning all of my records are neatly returned to their covers and stored in the proper boxed upright position.

Don't forget about the Beatles, Beach Boy's, Styx, The Knack, The Doors, Pink Floyd and others that I cannot remember at the moment. It is amazing how easy it was to put together a good collection of music I like. That is three months of hitting the thrifts and some records from my dad's collection.
