Hello AKers

I started a thread a week ago about my Focal speaker sounds bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrt...
But after the site crash, my thread was deleted.
I tried pushing the center around dust cap but the result was not satisfying.
I can't test my Focal speaker as my amp is under restoration to see how good it is now.
If this Focal needs to replace its voice coil, cone etc. So i need to buy this replacement parts.
I later on realize that no one sells replacement parts for Laureate Focal speaker.
Do you know where to buy this speaker's spare parts ?

Thank you

Which Focal driver is it? I have had some luck, carefully recovering the cone and surround (reusing them), and replacing the voice coil and spider. Done correctly, you can wind up with a very close match to original specs.

Gordon.

Hi Gordon,
It's from JM Lab Laureate with Focal 2 way speakers in them.
How to replace the voice coil and spider ?
By unglueing the surround and dust cap ?
Thanks

Yes, you would need to carefully remove the dust cap from the cone, and the surround from the frame, then cut out the spider, unsolder the lead wires, and lift the whole cone assembly out of the frame. Then, very carefully remove the cone from the voice coil and spider..

It's a bit like the apocryphal tale about making sausage- it's an ugly-looking process- but if you're careful, you can save the needed parts, and be able to get it going pretty much like original again...

I'm imagining that rubber surround has to go off the frame first.
Then the spider.
Do you agree that what's causing it is voice coil's winding is loose ?
Do i have to buy glue from speaker recone kit store or just buy it from local store ?
Thank you, Gordon.

When i press 2 fingers on left and right of dust cap...
It felt a bit dirty but quite thinly.
But when i press it from 1 corner only it felt something is scraping.
On center of woofer, it didn't make scraping noise that much, just a slight of scraping..very light. The music is now playable.
When compared to other speaker, this one can not move quite freely. As if something scrubs it back to back very lightly.
I called somebody from focal store center, he told me maybe it's just some dirt or some glue debris blocking the voice coil.
He suggested i try a service by their technician. Unglue something and clean the voice coil. And glue it back.
I don't know what he means by unglue something, is it the spider or the cone or the dust cap..
But this procedure doesn't tear the any speaker's component.
If i must replace some of its spareparts then it is doomed and becomes a junk.
As focal never sells spareparts for reconing.

Make a scraping noise when pushing on the center of the woofer? Not on the dust cap, use 3 fingers in a triangle pattern around it and apply even pressure. Is that the "dirt" you mentioned? If there is a scraping, the voice coil is bad...
