I have a G 8000, G 9700, G 7500, G 7000, G 5000 , and 2 have issues, the 8000 has intermitent channell going out, the 9700 goes into protection and the tuner is dead, and the 5000, well one of the lights are just out. My question is, do I spend $200+ ON EACH, THE 8000 AND 9700 TO HAVE REPAIRED, or do I sell them and get a G 9000db to replace them. :dunno: I was in the process to collect all of the G units, but now the wife is kinda freakin.... :twak: I still have a G 7500 (thanks RUSSINOHIO my bro) and a G 7000, but need at least 1 bigger G unit...... what to do, what to do..... man do I need some help on this decision..... HELP !! ....thanks...Michael.....

I tried to win the 2 G 22000s the other day but lost by a tick......."
Also, whats a fair price on a working G 22000 if I can find one working?

If I were you, I'd keep them all, and have them gone through one by one. If you've got something that's not working, just table it until you have the spare cash. Just think of it as an investment in your enjoyment :)

I wouldn't sell everything to buy a G22K, the G22K is a different sound than all the other G's, which you may or may not care for.

I've had my affair with the G series as well :)

Love That Setup !!!!

:thmbsp: Nice collection.... Thats the way I want tet up mine.... I just may do that, sounds like a good idea when ya put it that way, When you said that the 22000 has a differant sound, whats so diff that would make me NOT like it. I play Drums and Guitar and love the "IN YOUR FACE "sound, :guitar: the 8000 is GREAT when its working right, but with your experiance with the 22000, sounds like its not a sound that a lot of people care for, Ive heard that before and never asked what they meant by that. :scratch2: Is the 22000 sound diff than the 33000? is the 33000 the one that I should be seeking or a G 9000? I want Altec 19s BAD BAD BAD !!!! and My brother has a G9000 and Altec 19s with JBL 4312s, THAT just simply ROCKS !! I have so so many speakers, but yet to find a combination that I like together, Altec Stonhendge, HPM 100s (x2), all of the Sansuis, well not all... SP 100s, 1200s, 2500s, 3000s, 3500s.. AR9 Ls, Jbl L26, Infinity RSB2s, Mach 1s, Advent large (x2) ALTEC MODEL 9s, and TONS MORE, even a VOTT !. I will post some pics for ya soon, I got to take them and post, some of my buddies have seen what I have and FREAKEED out on how much I have... I think I have a BAD problem when it comes to collecting, I JUST CANT STOP ! I have a 2 1/2 car garage LITTERLY FILLED with JUST stereo equipment :thmbsp: + ALL THE STUFF IN THE HOUSE, thats why the wife is startin to freak :tears: Thanks for the reply and help....Michael....

I have both systems (G9 & G33). The g33 is like having a v12 engine with a four barrel carb as opposed to the G9 which is powerful, clear, crisp, but a 2 barrel carb. I think it depends on what you like. When I want to blow sounds to my back yard, its the G33 hands down. But for dancing in the garage with hip hop music, the G9 does grand.......One of my projects is to stack the G9 against the G33 with the same set of speakers in the same room to REALLY compare the two.
I'd say the G22 and G33 are probably very close in sounds......

You should change your user name to "Audio Pack Rat Junkie" ........ Show us a picture of those garages packed........

Out of that whole mess of receivers, the only ones I still have are the G-6000 and the G-901. Nuff said :)

I mean I don't MEAN to constantly downplay the G-22K......but I spent what 3 years ago was the long buck for it ($875 as I recall), and aside from its size, it just wasn't something that I enjoyed listening to. VinylHanger had his at the same time I had mine, and we both felt the same. Now that renegade Bambi-killer Army loves his ;) :D

It's all in how you like your music to sound. When I was saying don't sell the farm to buy the G-22K, I didn't mean not to buy it, I meant that you might regret sacrificing your fine Sansui collection over it.

And oh yeah, if you do, I call dibs on your G-8000 :D

Check the AK classified ads. There is a G-22000 for sale. The guy might consider trade ins as partial payment :D

Mike,
If you had to fix just one, I'd pick the G-8000. I don't think the others are built quite as well. The G-8000 is my Desert Island Stereo :music: You may ask, "But what about your G-9000?" Well, the G-9000 got turned into a handmade classical guitar. Sometimes you have to sacrifice to get what you want. I'm married, too...

(sigh) Easy Mikey! Easy!...Calm down :) Its all good!

I got you into this hobby so its my fault I guess.
You've only been in this vintage audio hobby LESS than 2 years and in this amount of time you've amassed an astonishing amount of gear. Just stop buying everything you see and go after that big G22K because you want it so bad. You'll never be satisfied UNTIL you get a big G (G22 or 33K) So I say: Get one!! :thmbsp: Aim your sights on what you want as your main system THEN start collecting again.

"Git 'er Done....!!"

I agree with Dr*audio in keeping that G8000. You got that thing for a song and they are getting pricey!

I've got a bad feeling that once you DO get G22K, you'll start smelling blood...and THAT would be a BA-5000!

Oh God! Your illness is all my fault! What have I done?! I'm sure the wifey appreciates my getting you into this :D

I have a G-8000 and I think it's just about the perfect mix of features, power, size and cost.

A G-9000 costs more and has a bit more headroom. Add $400

A G-22000 has even a bit more headroom. Add $800

A G-33000 has a lot more headroom. Add $1,200

I guess I'll stick with the G-8000 :thmbsp:

When comparing the sound of various gear it's important to see that it is all performing up to spec. A few tired capacitors makes a difference. Kinda like if I drag out a 1967 Corvette big block 427, with 300K miles on it, bad compression, and run it against a restored 1970 Firebird 400 with a 2 barrel carb, and the Firebird wins, people might say, wow, that Firebird is quicker! Too bad this is not 1978, and we could compare all new gear side by side. Heck, even a simple DC offset adjustment can make a big sound diffference in sound.

Think I would listen to what Kam said and to your Bro. The G 8000 is a great unit and I do love mine. My G 9000s are also great and I believe EW made a nice post regarding the G 9700.
All are good to excellent units and all are worth keeping. From the sound of you post and list of the problems on each unit, I would say a good Deoxit bath could solve many if not all the problems. G 8000s that cut out are almost always dirt. Same thing with G 9000s.
Plenty of threads here to help with this. My G 8K has been disassembled three times now chasing a dirty switch and finally it is flawless. The connect disconnect switch is the PITA.

can you elaborate on the differences in sound?

Do an advanced search under the keyword G-22000, and my user name, Kamakiri. Back then the issues were much fresher in my mind, and you can follow my whole progression with the unit I had :)

Ok, i think i had just recently read a bunch of posts from you saying you didn't like the sound and was having a hard time finding the root of the issues. I'll do a search on your user name.

I'd fix the lamp in the G-5000 and sell it. Then sell the G-7500. Then use the $$$ to fix the G-9700 and then sell it. That leaves you with a G-7000 and G-8000 and $$$ to buy a G-9000. Down from 5 units to 3 (wife is happy). Now that would be a good looking stack of Gs! :thmbsp:
