General Consensus on JBL 4722N for 2 Channel Music Playback

Howdy guys,

I recently acquired a pair of JBL 4722N and am loving them so far overall!

I’m having a hard time finding a consensus on the forums about them as a music speaker (especially compared to the likes of big Altecs, La Scalas, Cornwalls)

Would you guys say these are solid as main reference speakers ?

Yes, What do you power them with?
Bet they can play louder than any of the other speakers listed.
in a small room, probably will overpower the room easily.

I just read your other post that lists your components.
Should sound nice!

It sounds really really great! I was a little apprehensive going “cinema” speakers but they’re performing wonderfully (and removed the need for a sub!)

Don't worry, people have been getting outstanding results using cinema speakers in the home since at least the early 1950s. Many find them absolutely preferable to most home speakers. Note that in the past many home speakers, especially Altecs, were cinema speaker guts in furniture boxes.

Someone once told me that "a bigger horn is a better horn." That advice has swerved me well. Compared to Cornwall, Ithy're likely quite superior. Compared to LaScala, the LS likely has better mid-bass, but I'll give the JBL 4722N the edge for nearly everything else, especially if you use a DSP crossover and PEQ. The K400/K401 are some of the worst mid horns ever made (despite their popularity) and the tweeters used in La Scala and Cornwalls up until recent iterations, are not much better. a 2-way will have better time and phase alignment in the mid and high range frequencies and compared to a LaScala with passive networks, the JBL 4722N will likely be better in timing and phase alignment over all.
