I've been a member since 2017 but never had the need to post anything. Its amazing what has already been discussed on this site over the years. Lurking alone has taken me through three tube style builds, some speaker refurbs, and at least one turntable mod (more on those later).

I started out in an electronics tech program at my local trade school spending lots of time on tube style TVs and audio gear. I was sure I was going to work for some cool audio company building stereo stuff. I had one semester of digital electronics and then it happened, I got swept up into mainframe computer repair. I worked my way from hardware, into firmware, I learned all about operating systems, and finished my career doing software development.

I'm now retired and have time to go back to my first passion, audio gear! I spent about a year researching what kind of system I wanted and settled on a new Dynaco Stereo 70 amp. I bought the kit from Dynakit and built the original circuit using the 6AN8 variant. Then I built an EAR384P phono preamp from a circuit board on eBay. Finally I built a Dynaco PAS 3 preamp without the tone controls, another one from Dynakit. So now I have a very nice main system that warms my heart as well as my listening room. Oh I almost forgot, I built a set of kit speakers from PartsExpress. My room is small so the fact that they're only book-shelf size is not an issue.

My latest effort is a 'Summer System' for use in the warmer months. I was able to acquire a Denon POA 1500 amplifier and the matching PRA 1000 preamp. Obviously I don't have to put these together from the ground up but more concerning to me is they're solid state - a discipline I know little about. I already researched how to power them up from a deep sleep, but beyond that I'm clueless. I hope to harness the collective here should I need any help.

Thanks for reading,

Same here. I went from TV /audio repair into F-15 EW/ECM. Who knew. :rflmao:
avionic, Yours was a bit more of a hi flying career than mine but there was lots of military influence at Burroughs where I started. I worked on the business side though, think World Bank, Federal Reserve, 3M, Ford, etc...
