Had to get a new printer, Canon MG 6120, I love it.

I have spent years fiddling with my Epson printers. More fiddling than printing. I love my Epson 2200, but it has been nothing but a headache since I got it. I liked the images it produced once I got it going.

Last week I needed to print some invoices for a customer and sent it to the Epson... Nothing, just a bunch of light marks. Sent it to my back up Epson all-in-one, same thing, 20 minutes of head cleaning and it's out of ink and can't clean anymore and still won't work.

Off to BB and Staples I went. Looked at the Epson Artisan models and they looked nice, but were dinged for less than stellar images online. Looked at the Canon stuff and immediately went back to the Epson stuff as I am an Epson fan. After bouncing back and forth, I found a Canon that was on sale for a price I couldn't refuse, so I bit the bullet and grabbed it.

Man, oh man, printers have come a long way Baby.

I ended up with the Canon Pixma MG 6120. It is an all-in-one, but focused towards photography. It is also wireless which was a must have. It also has a grey/light black cartridge which is one thing I liked about the Epsons. Oh, and it works when I need it too. :D

As for prints? It is incredible. Lots of detail into the shadows and with the light black it also has a lot of detail in the highlights. One thing it doesn't have is that crappy Epson Metamerism that most of my images had with the 2200. The prints look like film prints with a deep feel to the image.

I have been wanting a wide format "modern" printer for a while, but just don't have the scratch. I really think this will hold me over for a while, as I have been reprinting a lot of older images and some new ones. Printing is fun once again. Now to get my monitor calibrated to the printer and then it will really be great.

So if you are looking for a better than expected photo printer at a decent price this might be the one. I grabbed it for 149 on sale, but it's off now, but if you look you should be able to find one.

As a long time Epson fan I used to have problems with the earlier models but the R1400 and R1900 have worked extremely well at work for me with no issues to speak of. I purchased an Espon 3880 just over a year ago and it has worked like a charm. I like the 80mm tanks as they seem to last a very long time. I just replaced the Light Magenta for the first time after one year. The matte black and photo black I have also replaced once a couple months back but that's because I print a lot more black and white than I do color.

There are two papers that I really, really, like for my personal black and white images and that is Epson's Exhibition Fiber Paper and Canson's Baryta Photographique Paper. Both beautiful papers that not only do black and white prints justice but equally to color as well. Expensive paper but well worth it for me IMO.

I also like Epson's Ultra Premium Luster Paper for most of my general color and black and white printing.

I'm glad you like your Canon because nothing is more frustrating than a printer that eats up more ink with cleaning cycles than it does for printing.

I've used Canon Printer for almost 10 years now started with a i960 and now have a iP6700D only 8.5" wide but on Costco Photopaper I get stunning results. With VERY good longevity (or as best I can tell with 9+ year old prints)

I would very much like to get one of the 13" printers

It's almost more economical to simply purchase a new cheap printer each and every time you run out of ink...!
We had a Pixma.....The ink (Like all printers) got stupid expensive.

Last time we ran out ........I priced replacement ink at $75.....
So, I went and purchased a $50 Lexmark.....
And that came WITH INK.
Been using it ever since!

I just got an Epson Artisan 730, it was on sale at 1/2 price, reg. $200 now $100. All the reviews I read gave it excellent marks for photo printing. It is wireless, has 6 ink cartridges and outputs nice tonal qualities. I have printed out some 8X10 pics and the quality rivals any I've seen from photo labs. I have had just about every make of printer there is, and find the Epsons and Canons produce the best quality prints.

I have always been an Epson fan. The 3880 was on my near future goals list until my priorities changed due to no cause of my own last year.

However, using this no fuss Canon has opened my eyes to both brands and I will be looking long and hard at both companies 13 inch printers.

As for ink costs, I just chalk it up to the cost of having a hobby. 20-30 bucks a month is cheaper than booze or cigarettes.
