Help Re-Installing Faceplate on Pioneer SX750

Hi, all,
I just got done servicing a Pioneer SX750 receiver. I'm reinstalling the faceplate now and can't seem to get it to finish tight and flush.
For example, there are only a few threads available to screw the nuts onto the on-off switch (left side) and the selector switch (rt side). Not enough to get the small washers under the nuts.
I've wiggled and jiggled it and can't seem to get it to fit well.
Is there a trick that I'm missing?
Thanks!

I just finished restorations on two SX-750s and I don't recall any problem getting the faceplate back on. You do have to jiggle it around a bit to get the PHONES and MIC jacks on either side to get in the hole. They should be flush with the front of the faceplate.

I thought so too. What's funny is that the right side of the faceplate sits flush with the MIC jack; I can't seem to get the left side to sit flush with the Headphone jack. The plate sits about a milimeter or two away from the edge the jack.

Those jacks have a little wiggle room. Try using a tool to move the jack over a bit when putting the faceplate on.

Thanks for the encouragement. I figured it out. The bottom edge of the hole for the on-off switch was getting hung up on the switch itself, but ever so slightly so it was hard to notice.

I just did an SX-550 and had that exact problem.

The issue was properly reinstalling the two selector switches. They have two sets of nuts. First on their shafts holding them to their sub-chassis (or the sub-sub-faceplate). Then a "union nut" goes over them. This is keyed to align with and go through the sub-faceplate (on which the various pot nuts screw) but the selector switch union nuts do not get screwed on this sub-faceplate. Then another set of nuts on the selector switches' union nuts locks the faceplate on.
  1. I Left off one of the subchassis nuts ...dumb, but not the problem.
  2. Didn't align the union nut properly with the sub-faceplate. This caused it to sit askew as you describe.
Only took me 2 cycles of removing and reinstalling all 16 screws to get it right.
