Heresy 1 to Super Heresy v2 instructions

I am partial to the Celestion woofers, but EQ/PEQ will definitely help the low end come to life.
TBH the only reason was looking at the Eminence woofers is because the Deltalite model was specifically suggested for no-port. Is there something specific you preferred about the Celestion? Not opposed to saving a few more bucks.

I suppose I could always get both options and keep my favs!

My opinion

Different people will have different opinions on the worth of the different elements of a Super Heresy conversion. My opinion is no more valid than anyone else's.

Contrary to what @Gigantic said, I wasn't "utterly dissatisfied" with the Super Heresy conversion. I felt that the "Super Heresy conversion unquestionably improves the performance of the Heresy: the HF range is extended and the SPL is boosted almost all along the audio spectrum." That said, I also felt that the improvement was modest and that -- as @Gigantic humorously put it -- "the juice wasn't worth the squeeze".
Sorry mate, it just stuck in my mind that you didn't like them too much, I didn't mean to exaggerate so much. I apologize, I'd been getting increasingly ill over the past 3 years and didn't realize it until the past 8 months, but it has affected my memory quite a bit. I'm glad to report that my health is rebounding after holiday surgery!

ah, yes, I'd remembered the Kappalite for porting and had forgotten about the Deltalite. fwiw, @mboxler has a 3d printed port that replaces the terminal cup so you don't have to cut your speaker boxes.

I haven't tried the Celestion, but it has become popular because it's cheapest, yet has the same T/S parameters as the Delta Pro 12A. the main difference is that it has a stamped frame as opposed to the cast frame in the Delta Pro, however, at civilized listening levels, there should be no discernible differences and damping them with Dynamat ought to solve any potential problems if you turn it up.

No worries!

Glad to hear that your health is rebounding.

Sending all best wishes.

I've compared the OE K-42E to the TF1225 and the I believe the TF1225 has the edge. The TF1225 has a composite cone and seems to reproduce program material with striking realism. It's just a great sounding woofer in my opinion.

Great feedback on that, thank you! The realism is what makes me love these little speakers so much in the first place.

The K-42’s were in Heresy Industrial Ported (HIP’s), which are basically Super Heresy’s from the factory minus the tweaking. Anyway, the K-42’s are no slouch, and do sound great. The HIP’s now have the TF1225’s and the K-42’s are standing by for a future project or sale… can’t decide which.

Just popping back in to provide an update!

I ordered a set of SMAHLs with DB-120s and got them installed. WOW! What a transformation! Some A/B-ing after I put the first one in REALLY shows what these new drivers and lenses do. The highs are so much less shrill and so much more refined. It’s like a blanket was taken off the speakers - even moreso than when I replaced the caps a couple years ago. Soundstage is massively improved, as well as overall dispersion through the room. It all sounds better when I’m moving around the space.

I haven’t had new back panels made, yet, so woofers are still in queue. I decided to go with the TF1225s. I had some Acousta-stuf and decided to add that in the meantime, plus foam strip to seal the box better. That definitely extended and tightened the bottom end quite noticeably for very little effort.

As they are now, I am extremely pleased with these mods. I’ll eventually get around to the ports and woofers, but am honestly so thrilled with how much better the speakers already sound that I don’t feel the need to do so with any urgency. As mentioned, I have an excellent sub to fill the bottom in, anyhow.

Thanks again for all the knowledge you guys have shared. I’ll chime in again when the rest of the recipe is done!

I went with the TF1225e's and am very happy with them. Ports are going to make a MASSIVE difference. Enjoy!
