Had about 5 hours today. The first three hours, I had the Ortofon MC X30 on the arm. Wonderful cart, no ifs, and, or buts. Then, I switched over to the MC X10, with the bonded elliptical stylus. You would think it would have been quite a letdown, going from a nude Fine Line to the same basic rock as a 2M Red, but that's not the case. All of the MC X series carts have the same motor, and the same tonal balance, the only difference is the amount of detail. Steve Morse Band, Dixie Dregs, Dire Straits, Genesis, Mike Oldfield, it all sounded more like I had simply put the grills on the speakers, rather than changed cartridges. All in all, I consider this seriously impressive performance for the money.
I could have just put a CD in the transport, let the DAC do the heavy lifting, and heard most of the same music. It wouldn't have been nearly as much fun!
