I tried taking as many angles as I could of the marking. It is some sort of surface deposit, that at one time dripped down the side of the cabinet. The drips came of pretty well with a rag, but I haven't tried anything else since. I also added one picture to compare the finish on the Frazier's (Watco Natural finish danish oil) vs the C35s (something high gloss, but I don't know how to be certain what finish it is).

Pictures tell a thousand words! Good news is that looks like it's on top of the varnish and not in the grains of the wood, so easier to remove, but be careful with solvents as the wrong one will dissolve the varnish. Will it come off with water & dish soap?

Also good news, the varnish looks pretty nice. You could decide whether you want to polish it further, strip it and oil, or just leave it alone ...

I somehow hadn't thought of trying water and dish soap! I'll give that a try and see what happens.

In terms of polishing it further, what would you recommend?

Any luck?

For polishing, I've wet sanded and buffed before but I don't know if I'd recommend it. The water can cause the wood to swell. There are a bunch of guides online if you search, I think most will involve sanding at some level ...

Looks awesome, thanks for posting all this for us to follow along with.

It's interesting that they are configured to stand vertically and not horizontally like the standard C35 cabinet. Do they have t-nuts for legs on the non-veneered bottoms?
The C35 is vertical. The C38 is horizontal. I have factory plans for both in front of me.
