And im back. I recently picked up a Kenwood KR-5200 and a pair of KLH Seventeens.

What a great combo. Everything works great. The controls need a good clean but this thing must have been behind glass its whole life.....speakers included. Great shape.

Im only familiar with the black plastic era of kenwood stuff....but this seems to be something special. It sounds really good. I cant wait to clean it up a bit. I have no idea where i am going to put this but its going to find room thats for sure. Happy to have found it for the price i paid (sub $100) for the speakers and receiver. They can still be had out there.

First time with KLH model 17s too. These are going to give my Dyanco A-25s a run for their money. I cant wait to fiddle with them.

Well.....after a quick assessment of everything.....the volume pot is going to need a good cleaning. Its pretty scratchy and annoying. This was no big surprise.

The "Stereo" lamp also appears to be burnt out or not working. Ill have to look into that. I may also need to do the same for the dial indicator bulb. I imagine that one will be really tricky. Im not sure if i want to replace with LEDs or not since my understanding is you would need to replace all lamps with LEDS and not to mix LED with Incandesents. I guess it will depend on finding bulbs etc.

Aside from that, it sounds great.

I also have a KR5200. I love its looks and sound. It was a rescue unit that I’m glad I put the time into. Every speaker I’ve tried with it sounds good and it’s one of the best imaging units in my collection. At the moment it’s in my daughter’s room paired with first gen ported Polk monitor 5’s. It sounded great with my A25’s! Congrats on your score!

I've had quite a few 5200's. At least I had the complete series in my collection (formerly). Wonderful units, mostly underdogs. Seems, that not much people appreciate these models. Don't know why. Built like a tank, wonderful tuner sections. Quality parts all over. Nice, wooden cabinets. All lights are easy to change. I always prefere normal bulbs, no LED's. To change the pointer lamp is quite a little bit tricky. Takes time, but its not rocket science.

i was told there are 4 different models, on the inside

Slightly different regarding the boards. As in many units of that time. Improvements? Different manufacturing places? Different suppliers? Who knows.

During my life as an insane collector I had them all. Fine series. Starting with the 3200 and ending with the 7200. Moreover KR.-7070A, 6170 Jumbo, the Qudaro.receiver of this line... Loved them.
