just picked up a Yamaha M-45 Power Amp...is this a leaking cap?

I just picked up this amp as a substitute until I get my Adcom GFA555 II rebuild. So far, it sounds pretty good and looks super awesome (now I really want the MX1000). I opened it up to check for any nonsense. There are 2 caps that have some goo around the bases, and I can't tell if it's old glue or the contents of the cap leaking. Maybe you guys can tell? Here are some pics. I have 2 weeks to return the amp, so I want to make sure it's cool.

If the glue is slopped on any adjacent component leads or anything metallic is has a tendency to promote corrosion and oxidation.

it's been blaring loudly on my 4 ohm Polk SDA1-B's for several hours now with no issues....it's barely warm....although, it did go into protection once or twice, but I was cranking it way too loud..haha...these speakers are pretty thirsty and this amp is roughly 125 rms...these speakers usually like around 300rms (waiting for my Adcom to be rebuilt)

I really like this amp. It sounds good, and it looks freakin' awesome.

I just found a broken M-80 on craigslist near me. He's asking $400. Said it played find and now there's no sound. What do you think it's really worth and what's the issue?

Discussion of prices in this forum is verbotten. The issue .. Could be just a solder connection ... or a " chernobyl'd amplifier. Definitely has a glue issue like the M-45 or worst.

The M-45 sounds much better in Class A but if you are cranking I don't recommend that mode since it is only the first less than 20 watts (I've seen 10 and 18 mentioned). Sine it runs that amp hotter you don't need to go there until you get a feel for running separates. Nice amp, though and a step toward your goal.

yeah I tried it in class a and I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference....

the guy with the M-80 followed up with me and told me that he was listening to it, the sound went out, and he saw a small puff of smoke, so I'm probably going to stay away from that thing....

Yes, the OM says 10, the SM kinda says 5 if you are looking for the number in the specs. sort of an aside but first in the categoy or power on the same line as the title. the kind of spec one might not believe if there was a bigger number out there.

And you have probably tested one and have seen the ten. I'm going with 10, it is much better than 5 and that other number I mentioned is probably a different amp. I just remember seeing a couple different published numbers for the M-45

The M-45 sounded very good in Class A mode but lacked life when run in Class A/B and the bias was adjusted right. It just wasn't the same amp but then it had not been recapped completely, just the parts with the glue in the area were replaced. Nice amp and with the power display you can see how much power you are using and determine if you really need more...you do.
