Kenwood kl-A700X speakers... any good?

I saw a pair of Kenwood Kl-A700X speakers at a thrift shop today (17-inch woofer, tweeter, supertweeter).... they looked sort of kubuki-ish, but that being said, I was wondering if they would be worth picking up (the thrift wants like $50 for them). Do they actually sound good?

I don't know much about them, so I thought I'd turn to the AK crowd for people's opinions before I made a (good or bad :) ) decision!

Thanks guys!

I haven't herd those exact speakers, but I have never really liked any of the other "Kabuki" type speakers from that time period. That's just me though, some people seem to like that type of speaker.

I didn't see any info on the web about them except they might have "indicator lights" on them. I would personally leave those where they were at. Typical case of too big a woofer in too little of a box.

Thanks guys! Oh, and just for reference, here's a pic:

I own a pair
they are what they are .... giant hollow speaker with a 17" woofer ....

they look cool ! sound meh but I use em with some black plastic crap components in my second system. cant get the power meters to work on mine though.

personally , id scoop em for 50 beans. assuming youre from the DC area ? lots of them show up in that area because of all the servicemen and they were military versions.

cool example of 80s kabuki but if youre not into that kinda stuff they would do you no good. for me the nostalgia factor of growing up in the 80s and whatnot made me take a pair home.

might be worth a penny or two on ebay though .... people really dig that kinda stuff , search completed auctions for "kenwood kl" and you will see some less desireable versions go for $200+
