KENWOOD KR-1000 Galaxy Commander Review

I could definately learn to live with one should I come across one.Unusual yes but that kind of makes it interesting.Just curious on how much it weighs?
Well one finally comes my way thirteen years later.Seller wants $300...I offered $200 so well see.Supposed to be fully functional.I may do $250 if I must.Just not into any more receivers after all this time but this one has always intrigued me.Any thoughts on the matter?

Finally got one.Coming of stereo buying age in the early 1980s I have a fondness for the futuristic look of led lights, meters and digital readouts.First impressions are it's like a lot of period totl receivers it not very refined but powerful. It's a real beauty.

It developed an issue. When you powered it off and upon powering up again the volume would be full blast. One could shut the speakers off but I just decided to sell it as is.It was a typical (at least to my ears) vintage monster receiver...it would play loud but was a bit unrefined.I probably would have kept it but I have been downsizing almost all my vintage receivers.

Family unit that was parked under a sofa for decades Right channel is sketchy. Rebuild thread to come. A unit R2D2 and C3PO would jam to. Only thing, it has less lights than say a MCS 3125.

Eight, nine years ago I succeeded in buying two of those KR-1000. It took time to nowadays to look into. One I opened immediately years ago. Had severall faults and I didn't have the necessary skills to fix. Or, to say the truth, didn't dig deeper. So it still is partially dismantled in a shelf... Blame on me.
The second one I grabbed today. Powered it on - only one channel. Moving the balance around 20 times from left to right - et voila, both channels are ok. So far it seems ok, I checked a lot of those funtions the unit has. But two "faults" there are: can't set volume. Neither up nor down. And the red arrow "high speed amp" don't light up.
