Kenwood restoration, repair, recapping and servicing threads

I've had to re-purpose post #3 as AK limits the number of characters in a single post and you incredible AK'ers keep adding to the collected threads here. Thank you!

I bought a ‘parts only, no refunds’ L-07c from fleabay. Someone tried to touch up the vias per service bulletin. Plus a couple caps were replaced (and the blown traces as expected). I posted a couple pics if you look. I did get the line level working but one channel of the phono still doesn't work.

If I start a resto page I'll add my link here. Until then, here are a couple threads I found.

L-07C resto threads

Here is a link to TheVintageKnob, about the L-07C: http://www.thevintageknob.org/kenwood-L-07C.html

Our favorite German Richard (@Broesel02) has a great thread (there are a few typos in the translation to English)
Kenwood L-07 C Mehr Arbeit als erwartet, Hifi-Klassiker - HIFI-FORUM

output relay by @pwauk12
Kenwood L07C and L08M relays

@Asmodeus2112 post about snapping, popping
C111/C112 1000uF/10v (snapping, popping)
Kenwood L-07C Restoration... maybe.

I've done a few of Richard's updates listed in his thread like replacing the back to back electrolytics with a single bi-polar.

here is an example:

Replace the two 22uF/50V (Cm123/Cm139) with a MKS2 10uF/50v. And Cm124/Cm140.
Use one 4.7uF/50 for Cm23/Cm25 (Cm49/Cm27).
Use one 100uF/50v MUSE bi-poloar for Cm67 and Cm137. And Cm68, Cm138.

I also found this L-07C II restore.

Discusses replacing the 'black flag' caps. Help me diagnose his from Trio L-07C II preamplifier

I hear that the KD990 turntable is easy to upgrade but can anyone tell me what upgrades can be made to this turntable?

I have a Kenwood KD990 Turntable that needs some oil added to the tonearm damping system but I have no idea how to go about this, can anybody help, please?

Use the “post new thread” button above right near top of page, make a new post with a title like “how to add oil to KD990 turntable to earn dampening system”, and describe your situation in that first post. One or more AK’ers will jump in and help or point you to info.

The two that stick out as useful from a search are:

https://audiokarma.org/forums/index...9940-quad-amp-project-notes-questions.886218/

https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/kr9940-in-the-house.867408/

@Ohighway , if you find either of those two on target for what you’re asking, let me know and I’ll add it/them to the index above.

Thanks Doug !! Those do look like informative threads.

One of my KR-9940 is exhibiting some mild distortion when put in SQ mode. The other.... can't remember...... it might be ok.

Hey, missed seeing you at my get together this last October.... :(

This is great information if you are a DIY person. A list of AK'ers who are technicians who would repair and upgrade our beloved Kenwood dated components. If it was sorted by region and specialty may help. I do not know if there are guidelines or that this is prohibited. Is this a possibility? It is so hard to find a reliable and honest technician who has the knowledge and experience to complete the job without having to take out a second mortgage on the house to get it done.

Somebody wouldn't happen to have a restore link for a KR-7050 would they?

Did you find anything on the KR-7050?

I've restored many Pioneers but this will be my first Kenwood.
Looking for a recap list along with identification and replacements for any failure-prone semiconductors, and any other tips or tricks for the 7050...

Preface- I'm a vintage audio noob. I did a cap/transistor kit on my KR-5150. I found the fact that only the transistor legs being marked, on the bottom, was obnoxious. However, a small flashlight or laser pointer can be helpful in figuring out where the other component legs are on pcbs where the they aren't marked. The top side of the pcb is marked but the bottom is mostly a sea of random traces. Just hold your light source directly over the component you want to remove to help figure where it's legs are located, on the bottom of the pcb.

I have had my Kenwood KD990 for six years now, and I finally took it apart to replace the damping fluid, clean the switchgear, and add some Sorbothane feet to it.
Wow, it's lovely.
