Let’s see those table lamps - vintage or modern

Found this while doing some reorganization today. Brought this home when we were readying my Mom's house for sale, last year. She wasn't sure how long it had been in the family. My first instinct was it was Ben Franklin. Cord had been cut and no sign of a compatible shade. I like the aged look of the metal and the dog. The book surface is off white where worn. No permanent place for it yet but I will get it rewired and search for a shade. Needs cleaning but that will require some research.

A recent conversation with a friend inspired me to keep my eyes open for vintage lamps at local charity shops. About ten days ago I stumbled across not one but two lamps at the same GW that were worthy of taking home. The first is a QUOIZEL that was in good shape. It was just missing the matching finial and a shade. I had several shade options at home so I found one that works - I just had to add a taller harp. I bought the teal ceramic lamp as a potential flip. I ended up purchasing a new shade for that lamp to enhance its overall look. (I'm told it can be more difficult to sell a lamp without a shade.) The QUOIZEL is definitely a keeper!

Now thats 1Koolcat :)
The harp thing and shades drive me nuts --
I have an old asain lamp with a crazy rod up the back --- ohh wait till i can post a pic ... damn thing is fragile as can be ---

I have posted this in other threads, but I figure a thread specifically dedicated to table lamps really oughta have this one.

This is my 1941 Mitchell "Lumitone" lamp/radio. It has a standard broadcast (AM) 5 tube radio built into it, which I restored to operating condition with all new capacitors and "mil spec" tubes. It sounds surprisingly well, given the fact that it has a 3" speaker.

Hi Katalyst, I have an advertising picture that shows the original shade. Mine is a later 1941 production that was made without the gold painted base (which I like the look of better). I sure wish mine came with the original shade, but with the scarcity of finding these units with no chips or other flaws in the bakelite, I'm happy to have it as is

.
There are several companies that can/will produce a custom lamp shade for you (search via Google). I had one made for a lamp of mine that I inherited from my parents.
Looking at that pic of the original, I believe they could make one almost exactly like it.

Back in the late '60s, my father brought a couple of lamps back from Japan that we really liked, and they featured prominently in the family home for many years... During the changes over the years, and my father's passing - the lamps disappeared - but my sister & I always kept an eye out for another set -or even a single. They had a large off-white reticulated base - and though I've seen other Chine lamps, never that particular base.
Then one day, I happened to be browsing across eBay and - there was one! It was being used as a pendant/hanging lamp, and was in a thrift/antique store on the west coast.
After some conversation with the seller (a very nice & helpful woman), she agreed to ship the lamp to me - and I re-created, to the best of my memory - one of those lamps. Had to pick out a base, lampshade, harp & wiring and put it all together.. My sister & mom are quite tickled - I love it!

Don't know if I posted this one or not -- but just finished rewiring it, old 3 way, with a light in the base.
Had this for years and never did anything with it... the base could use maybe a coat of paint, the bedroom lamp to the right has another mate just like it. Havent looked at them though. The asian one to the left was a really nice lamp, but it has deteriorated somewhat...

Gotta get upstairs to take a shot of the Trench art lamp, and also have a huge mid century beauty -- and a hanging Agate resin lamp .... YES!
Pics when I get a chance ....

I was looking for a new table lamp to go on my computer desk. I was at Goodwill Buy the Pound this morning and I was thrilled to find this one in one of the carts.

No doubt about it, if I needed it or not I would have grabbed that up if the price was right. Just for the character it adds to a room. For some reason green was a popular color at one time and I like it.
