i am currently looking for some nicer speakers for my new amp. i am currently using polk es20s with an smsl ps200 pro dac, and occasionally run a tube preamp. my room is not huge at ~15x8x10, i think id like 3 way speakers or something of the sort, just something that would pair nicely with my sansui. i feel like vintage speakers would probably pair best with this but im really not sure

Vintage: Snell E II, but be careful. Only a 2 way. If lucky and you find a Type C or Type D in your price range, run as fast as you can and get them.
New: Emotiva, bang for the dollar spent.
My 2 cents.

Where do you plan on shopping for speakers?

I know this gets thrown around a lot on AK when it comes to speaker suggestions but if you can DEMO, DEMO and DEMO some more and let your ears be the final arbiter.

Fwiw, when I had an AU-717 it paired quite well with Polk Audio Monitors such as the 5jr's, 5's and 7's all which are pretty common and can be had for well under $600

ebay, reverb, and some local shops

What type of music are you playing?
What size is the space?
How much volume are you going to use?
I have a 717 & it gets load fast.
Like one post, demo.

ill be using a decent amount of volume, i try to get some loud listening time in before its too late and my neighbors complain. i listen to lots of classic rock, blues, soft rock, some jazz, things like that

I have always like the 2 way speaker myself. Klipsch would work, if you can find a nice pair of Energy 22's, (used) I know they will play all that music & sound fantastic.
This came become OVERLOAD very fast if your new, take your time & get what sounds good too you.

Sansui au 717 you say? Never should have sold it to my brother. Sold it to buy a Kenwood ka9100. Big mistake ( to my ears) anyway. Anyway Ill never forget how it sounded with Bose 901 series IV. The bass this combo produced would make the most dedicated subwoofers look for a side job. Crystal clear highs also. With a turntable of course. Just remembering.

EPI M90 or M100 will fill a small room nicely. Add a sub if necessary and you won't be disappointed. I'm using a pair of EPI M90 in my winter residence (1024 sq ft condo) with a Dayton Audio SUB-1200 powered sub and it sounds great. I'm driving them with a new Yamaha A-S301. I have about $300 in the new sub and recapped speakers. YMMV
