LP Storage ideas - What do you guys think of these..

I never thought I would hear myself say this, but I've run out of room for my vinyl. I was using two oak boxes that are actually speaker stands and each holds about 70 LPs. (They were great speaker stands too). Anyway, that comes to 140. Problem is now I have about 160 LPs now and growing (slowly, but growing). I have 3 box sets as well which takes up more space.
I know that the Ikea Expedit shelving is the official shelving of us AK vinyl record owners:D and is on my list of solutions. The thing is that I may not have space for one of those units. Whether I do or don't what do you guys think of the following:
There is only one size of Expedit available these days: I wonder how many records this holds:http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80135298/#/60135299
My other choices are: (If I don't have a spot for the Expedit)
A few of these? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30170864/ I'm not sure how much weight they can hold, but I'm thinking they can be stacked?
I'm also hoping that perhaps I can find some plastic bins with lids that are a good size for LP storage. Perhaps around 13.5 inches tall (so I can have divider cards in them) and 13 to 15 inches wide perhaps)
There are those cardboard jobs, but they are more expensive than an Expedit unit by the time your done and they are only cardboard, so I'm not considering those.

A cheap record album box is one from McDonalds. Ask the manager for a french fry shipping box. It's the perfect size for albums. Holds about 100. I have a couple of those boxes and they are great for storage.

French Fry Boxes? Ok, I didn't see that coming. There's a McDonalds down the street from me. I think I may go ask about that.:scratch2: Are they stackable? Strong?

Expedit would be a good choice or build your own shelving if you're handy with design and fabrication and have access to a wood shop.

Large Rubbermaid bins would work but the problem is the floor space they require.

I don't know that you could call it temp storage. I want something for the room. I have limited space and the spot that would be great is 1.5 inches less in length than what I need for an Expedit unit. I could fit one next to the bed length-wise, but the access to my records could be challenging there, kind of narrow.

I have two similar units from these folks.

They make them smaller and larger. Check out their site. You can get them plain or finished. I got the plain. They ship from NY to IL no problem. FedEx I think. The cost was very reasonable. I spoke with them on the phone and worked out a deal for a floor display unit and fair shipping. Was packaged very well I thought.

They come larger also;

Each section holds a good 75 records, I have 3 units filled to the brim, about 1800 records.

Hey, I see they have one similar to the expedit config that is perfect dims, but it's quite pricey ($129) before shipping which is another $90 easy. So sadly, this solution is beyond my reach financially.

Nice but two problems. One is that I can't convert money into foreign script and two the examples are way more capacity than I will ever need. I don't see ever going beyond 250 LPs. I'm picky about the vinyl I hunt for.

Well, the good news is that all I'll ever need is the 4 section one.:thmbsp:Provided I can fit it. I think an Expedit unit would be the best as far as aesthetics goes, but a lidded box type config may fit better, be it wood or plastic bins as long as they are stack-able. Although, 1 foot of records weighs in around 40lbs, so it could be dicey with a stack situation for the records underneath.

Me, too; I said that 3 yrs ago. I am now up to 376 LPs.

I am an expedit user myself. But I use these plastic crates for overflow, and when I need to move my collection. I have bought them one by one over time and currently have eight. These crates are sturdy and stackable. It sounds like maybe you are not in the US(?), so a container store may be hard to come by. I believe these crates are manufactured by Iris.

I would not recommend the wooden ikea boxes that you linked to. They use thin wood with weak joints (so that the item can be packed flat). I am pretty certain that the box would fail if packed with LPs.

Thanks for the note on those Ikea boxes. Yes, I'm in the US and see that there is a Container Store up the freeway from me, so that will do. I like those crates, how many LPs do they hold? (It doesn't say anything about that on the website).

Ok, I think I got it! I have 3 choices:
1) Triple measure and try to find a spot for the Expedit 4X4 unit. (That would be nice)
2) Keep my present storage and add one crate (which can be located by the bed). Although I must say that my current storage is not all that.
3) Switch over to an all crate system that is stackable. I found tons of crates on Amazon like the Iris crate for instance and they have stackable LP crates at The Container Store for the same price. (I need to find out how many they hold). I also want to make sure they are tall enough for divider cards. With the crate system I would have more location choices too. Hmm, I think I'm starting to dig the crate system solution. I could easily stack four of them in a square where my present storage is and have room left over or I could locate them by the bed and have good access as well.
Yes, if I can get stackable crates that are also tall enough for divider cards, that will be my solution!:music:
