Does anyone have a recommendation of somewhere I can send my MX1000 for repair? I'm in Colorado but can ship anywhere in the USA. Thanks!

Avionic- While operating the amp at idle and I heard a quick series of loud pops and some of the magic smoke was released. Now in protect mode. The amp had been worked on prior to my ownership.

Do you know which channel "Chernobyl'd"? Popped and smoked?

It appeared that the smoke was eminating more from the left side of the amp. All the pops occurred in a very short period- I'm guessing 3-4 pops in less than 1/2 second. I took the top cover off and all 4 fuses appear to be visually intact.

We want to see her naked bottom ;) Can you post some photos from the bottom of that channel… bottom cover off?

Inspect and photograph the smoke-blackened parts so that you can see the entire board.
well, Chernobyl'd

This means you will find a chain of fried parts, likely on this amp board here but also possibly on the HCA main board on the other side. Not an easy repair but it can be done.
The good thing is that replacement parts are available and with better specs than the original in most cases. Hopefully Dave finds bench time for you

Gents:
I did not try to disassemble anything other than remove the bottom panel for photos.
The middle left transistor is definitely grenaded:

I've looked at the rest of the board and didn't see any really obvious smoke marks or black components. There were several partially discolored resistors but I don't know if that means they are blown:

Any other specific components you'd like for me to photograph?
Thanks for all the assistance guys!

On the left, in front of the second large transistor, the smaller TO220 seems burnt to me.

:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes:

that is very concerning. Your amp is missing all screws that are supposed to hold down the power transistors so that power dissipation is properly transferred to the heatsinks.

Who the F**K worked on this unit before?

It this is truly he case one of the most plausible reasons for the Chernobyl is thermal runaway as thermal management was severely compromised.

The resistor is toast. That 4.3v zener is highly likely toast...not by the way it looks but based on the typical Chernobyl'd typical suspects. And there will likely be more not visible to the naked eye. Again, all replacement parts are available but getting someone who truly knows these units to work on it will be your challenge. If Dave does not have bench time then wait for him or someone else who is qualified, so that you do not end up with more damage to the unit.
As it stands right now, your unit if fully rebuild-able. Let some other moron work on it like the guy who did not put the power transistors screws back , and you might end up with a boat anchor.
