I've used them in the past but it was awhile ago and I wasn't particularly impressed. Anybody have positive dealings with them recently? And any other places in the area that might've sprung up that I'm not aware of?

Sorry to say no direct experience but when I was in SB I drove down to San Diego for a mac tech
audiocraftsman.com
Worked out of his home, but really knows the gear.

Sorry, I should've been clearer. The San Frfancisco Bay Area. But thanks.

Yeah, I knew that is where you are. It’s very far from SD unless you’re shipping. Even from SB it was several hours RT. But he is excellent.

Don't want to ship except as an absolute last resort. I'd rather sell it cheap to somebody local. I've had my fun with it and have plenty of other gear to last me until I expire.

Not sure SerTech is a McIntosh specialist.

The McIntosh website lists 3 service centers within 200 miles of Sunnyvale. I have not used any so I can't give reviews.

1) R&B ELECTRONICS SERVICE COMPANY
1103 Oddstad Dr
Redwood City, CA 94063
P: (650) 363-8691
www.randbelectronicsserco.com
service@randbelectronicsserco.com
AVAILABLE SERVICES
Home Audio
Authorized Service Center

A few years ago a tech support person at the Mc factory recommended this place (Rainbow) over the one in Redwood City.
Their website seems to have an expired security certificate, so you may want to call them. It's a road trip (97 miles from Sunnyvale).

2) RAINBOW ELECTRONICS
7531A Madison Ave
Citrus Heights, CA 95610
P: (916) 863-7277
www.rainbowelectronics.net
info@rainbowelectronics.net
AVAILABLE SERVICES
Home Audio
Authorized Service Center

3) The 3rd place is in Reno.

Then LA.

What's wrong with the MX? I assume you've checked all the simple stuff like cleaning controls and checking tubes.

I’m in the Bay Area and haven’t found any local techs to work on my McIntosh equipment that I trust. I send my gear to Audio Classics.

I brought my MC2300 amp to Norm at Sertech in June of 2025. He has a posted weight limit on the equipment he’ll take in, but made an exception for me.

He shared that he is swamped with the amount of work he has, due to the ever-dwindling number of guys who do what he does. He told me not to call for 8 weeks, he couldn’t get to it any sooner than that.

It ended up taking 12 weeks, but the problem was fixed and the price was reasonable. I’m very happy with the results and experience.

(Feel free to pm me for further details.)

Nope. But it's good to hear of other potential techs that work with vintage gear. I'm looking forward to my meeting with Peter/Quirk Audio next week.

Dropping it off tomorrow.
fantastic. Please let us know how it goes...there was a gentleman named Ben who had excellent reviews; however, he unfortunately does not return calls or emails. He started off strong but may have become overwhelmed.

Was wonderful to meet Peter today. A really nice fellow with obviously lots of knowledge and experience. I have nothing but confidence in him and look forward to listening to the finished product.

I traded messages with Ben a few years ago and he seemed like he would be a good contact. But I see that his website is no longer, and I also had no luck in reaching him before I tried Peter.

Please post your experience when concluded for those of us in the Bay Area with vintage gear. I would welcome a reliable local tech.
