The gift of music can indeed be wonderfully inspiring.
I built a crystal set at age 7 and later inherited my folks' Silvertone console.
However, [this triggered a sad memory landmine]. I'm sorry.
His parents may object to the noise...someday.
My wife and I gave her 13-year-old a nice new boombox w/CD and headphones, and he really liked it.
It had a wake-to-alarm feature.
He set it for 3am one day and cranked the volume up full blast and hid the remote.
He also took the time to remove all the light bulbs from his bedroom's fixtures and carefully placed a pile of school books to trip over in the dark.
After setting his trap, he went to stay with his divorced daddy for the weekend.
The next morning at 3am...his mommy's neck was nearly broken in the fall.
There's more, but I don't mean to spoil the party here.
I guess the point is about ground rules.
BTW, he died two weeks before his 25th birthday. Ewing's sarcoma.
