After many many years, I have decided to re-start my long shelved project of having a fully working Sansui 1000 (NOT A)
Found this out there and ordered it.

You will Notice that it's missing a few things, like a output transformer.

And Knobs, and cover.. :(
But that does not matter!

I already HAVE ONE! with a cover, and 3 knobs. :/

So, between the 2, ONE good amp will rise, like a phoenix! :)

The 1000 is the one that runs the four 25 volt output tube heaters in series right off a tap on the mains side of the power transformer right? Make sure you check those for heater-cathode leakage. A short there will tie the power line right to the chassis, not an ideal situation.

Transformer is a nice idea if it fits, but a grounded cord would be a solid idea. At least that way if something shorts it has a path somewhere less dangerous than across whoever touches the amp.

Looks like there is already a small transformer mounted at the back edge of the amp. Wonder what that is for?

Yes, not much room for another one, I AM getting NOS output tubes, however, even though the ones I have still seem OK.

Gosh, I too have one of those and had started to replace the capacitors. Output tubes are TV tubes and rather inexpensive. It would be a nice "garage" receiver.

OK, I got the Sanui 1k from the seller, and he did not pack it very well, the Selector knob was damaged in shipping, not only that, its quite different than the old unit than I had years ago, as It does NOT have AM/ FM bands and does not match the schematics and repair manuals exactly that I have seen, the dial glass is missing as well as the loop antenna bar, and since its NOT AM, i Really dont know what kind It needs. the Power supply is fried, the 1 ohm resistor is open.

Sorry for your experience. It is a shame when items get destroyed by poor packing.

Wasn't there a European version of this receiver that had a SW band as well? I may have this one confused with another one. But that may explain the difference?

Looks like its MW? Thats Medium Wave, aka the AM band. Its got both broad and sharp IF response positions.

I think I also see LW, which is Long Wave. Thats more of a European thing.

Seems like the massive job just elevated to a colossal one. Maybe since it is different than what you thought, they will take it back and refund your money.

On the other hand maybe it might be better, as it might be more interesting listening to Long wave than AM.

I've never heard anything on long wave, I don't think it was ever really a thing in the US. Not that there is much worth bothering with on AM either.

but I'm pretty sure this has both just based on what I can make out on the faceplate.

guessing its that.

In this country, there's literally NOTHING on longwave other than an occasional beacon or such, usually in CW( Morse code). Maybe not even that.

Well, without the Bar antenna, or even knowing how it's hooked up, because it seems different in the 1000ea than the US version, I may not even get AM to work on this w/o the bar cause I cant see it working without it.

MW in Europe is/was the same as the AM broadcast band in the US. Europe has/had two AM bands, so instead of calling them both AM, they called one LW and the other MW.
