NOS SP-10 MK3 or the New SP-10R?

On Ebay there's a SP-10 MK3 with the SH10B5 Plinth and the EPA 100 MKI for sale all items are NOS still in there box's. I'm sure it will sell for mega bucks. The question is what would you prefer and why the NOS MK3 or the New SP- 10R? :dunno:

I think JP was inclined to side with the MK3 for what reason I don't know, but if money was not in question
I think going New is the route I would take. By new I mean SP-10R or even whole hog with the SP-1000R
and a few arm bases.

Even Nos in the box "MK3" doesn't mean it won't need to be serviced to meet original specs.
Just my inclination.

Yes that was my concern also on the MK3 that it would need to be serviced. Also I would think the new SP-10R would have better (modern) caps and transistors in it.

I really don't know but I wouldn't just assume that the new one uses better caps. I would want to research and see which one was truly the better table.

I'm no expert on this but I would think that technology has progressed since 1985. I sure hope it has. :dunno:

I wouldn't disagree with the statement that technology has progressed, but in many cases the improvements in technology have been focus on cost cutting rather that increased quality. In the case of an expensive table like the Technics I would certainly hope that would not be the case.

In this case, I wouldn't be as concerned with caps. On a turntable the audio signal doesn't go thru any caps.

I would think if everything is NOS that it will sell for as much as the new SP-1000. Around 20g's.

I'm pretty sure that as good as the MkIII would still be a win for the new version. It is clearly not a cheaper rehash of the original, but more statement piece with a couple more decades research behind it.

I'll take the SP1000R if that's available. Also, as noted above, the mk3 is going to need maintenance due to age. Figure lubrication and electrolytics renewal. (caps)

Of course, the SP1000R needs to be free in this situation, the mk3 for that matter.
Another consideration.....shouldn't the SP10R really be designated the mk4? Just say'in.
