Onkyo Grand Integra real wood panel options

I am wanting to replace the crappy veneered side panels on my Onkyo Grand Integra pre and amp witb real wood ones.

Initially I wanted real Rosewood but finding the wood has been daunting.

I've seen walnut and am unimpressed. I've seen maple and actually liked the contrast of the light wood and black.

Any thoughts on a wood to choose for this?? Solid wood only and no crazy expensive exotics that are harder to find than the rosewood.

Black walnut? Mahogany? I'm going to try some nice old seasoned clear fir on my Onkyo Integra TX-85. It's free, so I'll give it a whirl.

I'd say a burled, quilted, or birdseye maple. I have a rosewood handle on one of my kitchen knifes and it's pretty dark.

All kinds of wood patterns and I'd bet you get an end cut sending dimensions from a sample.. or layup small sections of veneer. You can get rose wood panels cut from a cab shop they use for trim.. Like a valance over a sink.

You might try stripping what you have and bleach out.. etc.. you can get small cuts of veneer if you ask even online.. postal is pretty cheap. depends on your decor or better half sometimes. :D

Maybe white ash panels.. got a pair of shelves for nuts at a local GW.. with the retail price of about 26 I got for half and change.. big enough for a nice battleship. LIke white ash or equiv. and black or whatever on top.. you can get a nice contrast. just some ideas.:smoke:
