Passthru questions on C2300

Hi everyone!

First of all, I'd like to state here how much I'm enjoying my new Mc setup. I had no idea how much more i could enjoy music.

My current setup consist of: Preamp C2300 + source MCD301 + amp MC402 + Sonus Faber Cremona M which i use only for 2ch music.

Unfortunately I don't have two rooms to separate my 2ch from HT gear (mainly used by the family).

Everything is hooked up and working perfectly. I managed to link everything with data and power control cables so no one has to touch the Mc's while turning on the HT system.

Currently, when someone turns on the receiver for HT/TV viewing, it automatically turns on the C2300 through the power control cable hooked to the passthru trigger. Immediately, the C2300 turns on the amp MC402 and the cd-player MCD301. C2300 shows tube warming up. Once the tubes are warmed up, the C2300 realizes it is on passthru mode and turns off the cd-player mcd301. Once the receiver is turned off, the complete system shuts down. Everything works perfectly. The only thing I really found unnecessary is the fact that the player gets turned on and off on the process I described.

My question/doubt here is, do you guys think that this turning on and off of everything everytime someone watches TV/home theater is going to shorten the life of the mc gear. Should I worry about this or just forget it??? When the pre C2300 is on passthru mode, are the tubes getting used, ie, diminishing their life span??

Tks a lot in advance for any input.

best regards,

Fabiano. :thmbsp:

The system is designed to work as you have it connected. This should not effect the life expectancy in any way so enjoy.

I have my MDA700 cabled so that it powers on when the preamp does...
I have 2 amps, one is cabled to power on when the speaker 1 button is pressed, the other amp powers on when speaker 2 button is pressed. The preamp "remembers" the power state of those 2 switches, so if the amps were on the last time you used the system, they go on when you power the preamp back up. I don't use power sequence on my sources, like the music server or tuner; I power them up manually as desired.

Hi, just one follow up question on the C2300 passthru. When in passthru mode, are the tubes being weared out???
tks

Tks a lot Victor!

does anyone know what sort of life span we can expect from such tubes??? also, do they degrade with time or their behaviour is more binary (good/not good)??

Tubes in McIntosh preamps last for a long time. Think in 10,000 hours or decade of use.

Thanks,

great info Ron!!! I'd say the average use at home is about 20h per week. My concern was that only 5 out of those 20 are music listening. The rest is passthru mode. But at this pace, 10k hours brings us to about a decade of use as you put. Before that, my C2300 will be at a dedicated room not being used in passthru. Also, my curiosity should get me switching tubes any way before that.

It buged me that my cd player kept turning on when powering up my system so I removed the trigger cable and just turn on the cd player by remote when I want to use it.

Current McIntosh CD players will also turn on with a play command. You could just leave the data cable connected and send a play signal to turn MCD301 on.

Thanks,
Ron-C
