I have done a complete restore on this 9191 and the clutch collar fix and it floats and spins freely . FF/RW starts off strong but slows down as the tape builds up on the destination reel . When observing clutch in motion I can see the clutch and axial arm start to go up/down and the large arm (FF Lever A) starts to chatter some. I have lifted the back tension pad, disconnected the counter, with no change. I cut the tape on a cassette with all the tape on one reel and FF/RW are very strong and no chattering. The motor drive tire is new as is the ff idler pulley tire . I thought the whole clutch assembly was binding on its axial, as there some black residue( it's not grease) where the axial goes through the idler, now I'm not sure. I have some 2mm ID bronze bushings but their 5mm OD makes it tuff to use them on the idler. I'm looking at the idler axial arm or FF lever A causing the binding. Could I need more clearance on FF Idler B. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

I ran into this once. The fix was to slot the FF/REW solenoid mounting screw holes so the sled/brake lift lever can completely move the brake and clear the take-up reels. I don’t know what changed to cause the condition. I may of overlooked something :dunno:.
Or the spring associated with the brake needs to be checked for correct assembly and or condition.
It does sound like a brake issue.
If you dig back in, and before you slot holes, double check the mechanism. Maybe something like a worn or bent tab. I’ve been in so many different decks I can’t completely remember.

The brakes lift correctly but I'm checking them out . When the deck starts to slow down I hear it , like something is dragging its not quite a squeal its a lower sound. Hard to describe. Thanks
