PSB Stratus Silveri, worth more than ADS L620?

There are some used Stratus Silveri speakers for sale in my neck of the woods for about $400. I currently have some ADS L620s that I've owned for over 30 years (yikes!). They almost certainly could use recapping and/or modification of their crossovers. But they still sound pretty good! Would the Stratus Silvers be a worthwhile step up? Would they sound better? How about in the midrange (lacking in the two-way 620s)?

Thanks in advance .. Dan

I owned a pair of Silvers (not the "i" version) for a few years. I liked them, but replaced them with Focals. I think they'd most certainly sound different than the ADS, not necessarily better. The ADS, I would think, will have a leaner sound, whereas the Silvers are warmer, and go lower (well, at least appear to go lower). Some might say the ADS are more accurate; if you like their sound I don't see that the Silvers would be an improvement for you.

As always, just my opinion, YMMV.

Happy trails,

I've not had the Silver, but did own the Stratus Gold i for a couple of years. I would say they were one of the more truthful speakers I've ever owned. In other words, they were very revealing of poor recordings and mediocre upstream components. They also thrived on lots of clean power. They ate it up like candy. I powered mine with a Nakamichi PA-7 and felt like they would have actually liked more power. It's tough to compare them to a smaller 2-way ADS, but a pair of ADS L1090/2s eventually replaced them. I found the ADS to be a more comfortable speaker to listen to for extended periods and more forgiving of source material and electronics.

Completely different animals but, the Stratus Silver are excellent speakers. I would consider them a step up but YMMV. I've owned several ADS speakers and had the Stratus Silver (non I, IRCC). Definitely the Stratus were far more dynamic and far more neutral. ADS to me always seemed to have a darker tone to them. I am much more of a fan of the PSB.
