I have a Cary SLP-90 preamp set and a D5Pro. The depth and width of the stage are amazing. If you want to get the effect of the bass going down to hell and better resonance of the instruments, throw away the PSVANE tubes, which are "suitable for lighting up cabinets".
My tube set is 2x RCA 5963 from 56' and Toshiba 62'. If you install this set, it will tear you out of your shoes and you will not be able to tear yourself away from listening.
However, I am struggling with the problem of screaming vocals when I want to listen louder: above the 50 scale on the Cary SLP-90 preamp. Bands like AC/DC, JUDAS PRIEST, the vocals are unbearable.
I have read previous posts about replacing the speaker terminals in the D5PRO with rhodium-plated ones. It sounds a bit like audio Voodoo. Do you think that such a change would calm down the screaming vocals and the midrange? They were partially tamed to a more pleasant level thanks to the combination of tubes used, courtesy of my friend.
Additionally, my D5PRO heats up to 70 Celsius after just one hour of listening. I don't know if it's safe for it and whether to unscrew the top cover for better air circulation.
Additional note: my D5PRO requires 2-3 restarts to confirm readiness when the CARY SLP90 is connected. If I disconnect the preamplifier, and don't connect any other device to the RCA inputs, then it starts up on the first try. Is there anything I can do about it?
