Rega Elex-R Real Life Experiences - Powering up takes time?

Dear team "British",

first of all: All the best for 2021 and keep healthy!

To start my personal year 2021 in a good way, I just acquired a couple of days ago again yet another Rega Elex-R, after I made the mistake and gave my previous version away, different story & mistake ;-)

As expected I am in love with the sound and the presentation of this lovely amp, PRAT all the way! Thumbs up!

But I am bit irritated by the powering on procedure of the amp, which I remember from my previous Elex-R (back in 2018) differently?

As usual, the amp starts with a „slight pop“ at the loudspeakers if you hit the power button, normal as I know for a Rega Elex-R and expected - so no worries.

After that, with a very short delay, you can hear the soft click of the input (?) relay, the red light of the input indicator coming on and normally you would assume that you hear instantly the music/ audio signal, maybe with a few milliseconds or let’s say an average of 1-3 sec delay.

But with my Rega Elex-R it takes at least another 10 seconds, sometimes up to full 20 seconds, until you hear any signal at all.

It this really the normal behavior of the amp these days?

I am pretty confident that this was not the case with my 2018 Elex-R and that I heard „immediately“ the audio signal after the source indicator came alive and the input was „on“?

It is bit of a strange behavior because you always assume/ have the feeling that something is wrong or your input/ audio signal is „dead“.

Would be great to hear your comments on that one.

I agree with the above. Talk to the dealer if you bought it through them. If not it may be worth your time to go to the Pink Fish forum as Paul Darwin of Rega frequents that forum. You could PM him there..

Mine has a longer delay than I was used to with other equipment. Never timed it but seems like its at least 5 - 10 seconds maybe a bit longer.
