Rek-O-Kut Micropoise tonearm restoration

I have a nice Rek-O-Kut S-34H that works great. The only thing is the chrome on the tonearm flaked off. I was thinking of sanding it and breaking loose any of the oxidization, then painting it with either a chrome or silver metallic spray paint. I am just wondering if anyone has done something similar or if there is a better way to restore it. Attached are what it looks like now.

The metal will polish up very nicely, especially the arm tube & headshell, no need to paint unless it’s just something you want to do….

If that is aluminum it will polish nicely. Just good "delta retirement light" to see how woodworkers buff old aluminum bandsaw lamps to a high sheen.

The key though would be removing the arm so you don't stress the bearings. But you'll have to do almost the same level of prep to paint.

Another alternative may be very thin heat shrink. Or tape.
