Schiit Bifrost Multibit and Connecting It To My Phone!?

Okay, i just recently bought a schiit bifrost multibit and it sounds amazing running WAV files through Jriver on my desktop.

However, I was wondering if i can play music through my phone (samsung galaxy s6) using a male micro usb to male 'b' usb? What app do i need to play music so it goes through the usb port on my phone and not the 3.5mm jack!? Also, do i need anything in between my phone and dac once i buy the proper cable?

Sorry for all the newbie questions, i've just never done this before. Thanks in advance for all your help! :)

Yup, it works. I do the same with my S6. The cable you want is called a "USB OTG cable". Some pretty cheap ones on Amazon.

Before some os updates, I had to use an app to make it work, but, now I get an option for "audio over USB" when I connect everything.

Holy crap, i didnt even think about using an OTG cable! I already have one and it works... thanks man!! :thumbsup:

I picked up a USB OTG cable a while back to try my S5 with an outboard DAC. Paid a bit more to get a USB 3 plug cable (a little more robust I think, no audio performance difference in this regard), then $5 or whatever to try the Neutron player. Sounds pretty good through the DAC.

The laptop through jriver is much better than my phone for sound quality. I just wanted an option for friends and family for when they want to hear my system and only have music on their phone. :)

Going through Jriver on my laptop is definitely better, but it is quite nice to be able to plug my phone directly to my dac. Granted, i am probably using the cheapest OTG cable out their (uncle gave it to me years ago), but it still sounds good for going through a phone! :thumbsup:

Huh. I've been wondering about plugging in my phone directly to the Bifrost Multibit, I'll have to find one of these OTG cables. Hope they work for iphones!
 
I looked up the Airport Express and apparently it's limited to 16/44.1, but I'd like to go higher since the Bimby will take up to 192.

16/44.1 bitperfect CD quality ,Redbook standard.

If you need more try a CCA. Not sure how that works with a Iphone tho as I never tried it.

You'll probably need the Apple Camera Connect Kit Lighting to USB adapter. It's the only way to bypass the internal DAC. You MIGHT also have to use a powered USB hub if you get an error message on your iPhone.

I have the CCK and a Bifrost multibit... I've never tried it though. I'll test tomorrow and report back.

Okay. Just tested it out using both my current model iPad Pro 9.7" and my iPhone 6. Apple Camera Connect Kit adapter from the device into USB into the Bifrost Multibit gets a "This device uses too much power warning" on the device. Both iPad and iPhone. I put my little Anker (from Amazon) powered USB hub into the mix and it works great. Tidal streaming sounds kickass through the USB. Better than the Chromcast Audio into Optical.

The limitation is more from the Chromcast Audio streamed to over wifi. Probably has to do with Jitter etc... I believe it's pretty commonly accepted that USB is a better sounding option than optical with the Bifrost if I'm not mistaken.
