Sony PS3/Dish HD DVR to Denon AVR 2802

Few questions......if I run an optical cable from the PS3 to 2802. That will give me sound through my speakers? Now if I put in a game or blue ray will everything else work the same except the sound will come through my speakers? I currently have the PS3 and Dish HD box going into the tv with HDMI cables. Can the Dish HD box be hooked up to the Denon 2802 since it doesn't have HDMI?

Appreciate if anyone can give any info. I wanted to get the cables I would need this weekend and get it hooked up.

There is a couple of ways of going about this. I have a similar dilemma in my home that I resolved by feeding the audio output of the TV to the receiver (My tv has a digital coax out). I also have optical audio running from my PS3 directly to my receiver as well, as my system seems to handle optical better than digital coax for some reason. If you choose to do this, however, you will need to enable 'Audio Multi-output' on the PS3, so that you can get sound on optical and HDMI.

Which model of DishNetwork Receiver do you have?

Thanks for the info.....I know my tv has optical out. So looks like I will need two optical cables. (ps3 to receiver & tv to receiver)

I will have to see what the model number is for the Dish receiver. I know its the HD DVR box and I'm pretty sure it also has an optical out on it

Update: I found 2 pair of 25' optical cables that I had from my car audio days. I ran the first one from ps3 to receiver. Then the 2nd one from tv to receiver. Put in a ps3 game and had sound from my front speakers. Then I unhooked the cable from ps3 and put it in the optical out on the Dish receiver. Had sound while watching a tv show.....next problem is my Denon only has 3 optical inputs and I have 4 (cd,ps3,tv,dish receiver). Does those splitter works? Thought I could try one of those. Use a 3' optical cable from the ps3 and Dish receiver into the splitter and then a longer optical cable to the denon receiver. That's how that would work? (for tv to denon just use one long cable)

Next do I need to hook up any of the component cables for anything?

Also here is a pic of the back of the Dish receiver(optical out is to left of HDMI)

Newer Blu-Ray MUST HAVE HDMI and current HDCP. Only workarounds is older Blu-Ray players or professional market players. Thank the Motion Picture Association of America and their DRM ugly thugs. Put the blame where it deserves credit. And the Blu-Ray Disc Association.

If you have optical out from your TV, in a perfect world that should relay Dolby Digital from all sources connected to the TV. Does your TV not do that? You may need to do some fiddling in the settings.

As I mentioned, my TV passes full 5.1 through digital coax, and the only reason I have optical is because my receiver is dumb. If I had a decent receiver (like it sounds like you have) I would just run the digital coax to the receiver from the TV. Having optical run from your PS3 and dish receiver is redundant if your TV passes 5.1. If your TV does not pass 5.1, or there are issues with it, then I would not connect the optical to the TV.
