This went off to Craig (NOSValves) for a recap and the work required to use 7591XYZ's in place of the 7355's it was designed for. Apparently this only required lifting a connection the S/C used for a tie point that's not used on the 7355. These are basicly repinned 6L6GC's and a new matched quad can be had much cheaper than the 7355's, which I can still use. The 7591XYZ's are substantially bigger but it's running nude so no biggie, in fact their kind of impressive!

It's driving some Wharfies while I get to know it again and I'm hoping it has enough oomph to drive my Polk Montior 7's that weren't happy with a Sherwood S-5000's measly output.

Wow....could you downsize those huge a$$ pictures some so it doesn't take so much scrolling around to see them? Maybe to the resolution at 1024 X 768 or even 800 X 600.

Nice though....I think.

WOW! They really liked to cram those bottles pretty darn close together... :yikes: Otherwise a very nice, clean unit. :thmbsp:

Yeah, the Sovteks are a bit larger than the 7355s... but the bigger bottles will run cooler (more surface area).

This thing's been running for hours and everything is extremely cool compared the Sherwoods and Scotts.
Sorry about the pics - tried to link to the thumbnails but I blew it!

Havnt seen too many of those...
Interesting how the chassis has all those plugs and block off plates. It looks like the same chassis was used for some other model perhaps?
I also like how they put the input RCAs right up front near the pre-amp instead of routing through the chassis. A bit of a PITA certainly, but should result in less noise intrusion and ultimately yield better SQ.
Nice amp! If it were mine I would re-pin it for 6L6GC

Nice-looking amp. :thmbsp: Yeah, the S-Cs seemed to use 7199s in pretty much all their amps too, it seems. At least the ones I've seen.

I've seen the amp and preamp seperates as well as a sort of rack affair that went into consoles. I suppose re-pinning for 6l6GC's would allow some lattitude in rolling tubes as now the only choices are the 7355's or or the Sovtek 7591XYZ's. I've got a bunch of the 7355's, which is why I went that route. Maybe if they dry up I'll go for it.

Great looking amp, I really like the faceplate; very impressive!:thmbsp:
