Last evening the cartridge holder arrived for this Philips 312 TT. In the same mail I received a new Signet TK5e cart, so this made the RS version of the Shure V15 surplus and I installed it in the cart holder. Used my alignment guage to line it up and gave it a spin - sounds really nice. The cart has a new stylus with no more than 5 or 6 hours on it. The TT has one ding in the front metal, plinth is perfect, cover has some light scratches. All the lights in the touch buttons work, the speed adjustments work. I have seen these sell on epray for various prices but really have no idea what to put this up for.

The bad part of today? On Monday Florence's Impala popped the Check Engine light, appointment was for 1:30 today. Phone rang at 2:10, they found that mice had gotten into the air cleaner area and chewed up wires leading to the computer. Said I would come right over and pick her up.

Halfway to the dealer's my Impala starts to idle at 2500RPM - WTF? Get to the dealership and pop the hood, they find that the little f**kers have been at work on my engine.

Rented a car, drove to the drugstore to get her prescriptions, arrive home finally to find that UPS came to pick up while all this was going on, and a fellow AK member who was to stop by at 4:00 probably came while all this s**t was taking place.

Some days it does not pay to get out of bed.

You need to read the Riot Act to all those cats you feed Rob. Their falling down on the job!! :smoke:
 
Sit back and spin a couple, perhaps it will get better :yes: (sounds like it can't get much worse!)
 
I saw one go for 159 this past week on E-Bay and there is another advertised as a professional rebuild/mod for $199.
 
The mice or rats ate holes in my cooling system overflow bottle, I guess to get at the sweet glycol in the antifreeze. I hope they got to it.

A BIN of $200 with a starting bid of $150? Make sure you emphasize the Shure V15 in the title AND that you are a proper tech and have replaced all the bulbs (I'm assuming you did because yo always do!) and clean all contacts etc...and you know how to pack a TT.
 
Sounds famiiar to my yesterday. Mine involved red squirrels, yard sheds, Sansui tuners, and JBL speakers, though. A minute, did lose a CL deal on a Dual turntable because I was away from the phone dealing with the walnut horde.
That Phillips is a good looking piece of gear. The Shure cartridge goes for a pretty good price, as well. Can't really help on the pricing but I'd reserve it a fair amount. No sense letting someone steal it away after the work you did. Good luck with the autos. BTW, human hair in the varmint raceways is a good deterrent.
 
merrylander has given us first crack at this turntable. You can be certain of his abilities to pack a piece of gear, to ensure safe arrival. I've had to unpack a few.

Must be spreading... this morning I drop my daughter off at school and then head to work. Come to a stop light with a line of cars in the left lane making a turn so I pull out to the right lane and all of a sudden POP! Sounds like a gunshot from my car! Thought I just went over a serious pot hole or something.
Drive a few feet more to the red light and a guy knocks on my window and point to my passenger side front tire and says you just blew your tire out!

Went back to look. Seems I went over a sewer drain that was raised up about 6" with pot holes all around it... Boom!

Damn! This is a new car I just bought on Monday.
Call AAA, they put the doughnut on and then I head to the dealership where they replace the tire for $124.00 and I'm 3 hours late for work.

Maybe today should just be cancelled alltogether! :thumbsdn:
 
i'm with you merrylander. i kept having trouble everytime it rained out with my car and i took the car in and they said mice were chewing the insulation off the wiring and they had to rewire parts of the starter and some other electrical parts.
 
Sorry to hear about your mouse problem. I didn't know mice would tear up a car! We live in a 40 year old subdivision out in the county, with fields and forest on three sides, and for whatever reason, never had mouse problems. We get snakes, squirrels, possum, armadillo..., but no mice. Are you sure you're not trying to garner interest in your next project, "How to build a better mouse trap"? :D (If anyone could do it, it would be you) :yes: Hope the next week is kinder to you. Sounds like a sweet TT.
 
We got both cars back today, or should I say we ransomed them. Florence's $500, mine $389. Bought two Victor mousetraps on the way home and two boxes of mothballs. Apparently if you put a handfull of mothballs in an old knee high nylon and tie it inside the engine compartment it keeps the little buggers away - we'll see.

Thats good to know with all the rats we running around out back from the dumpy dry cleaner. I was getting worried that I woul dbe in the same boat.
 
That Philips TT was very popular in it's day. Was probably a best buy in it's time. Very rugged.
 
The TT, is it the earlier model with green lamps, or thr later model with the red LEDs?

Your price is more than fair- these should always sell for $100 on a bad day, with questionable potluck stylus, and over $200 on a good day with a decent stylus. With the brand new and very nice stylus you added, plus your expertise in shipping, your reputation, and your magic touch, someone will be incredibly happy with this.

Looks like it's the green lamp model. the green lamp model was built more like the 212, therefore is a bit (just a tad) beefier than the red LED model, but of very nominal difference. The tradeoff? Minimal. The green lamped model lamps do go out sooner than the red LEDs would, but even that's pretty infrequent.

No matter which model, earlier or later, it's a legendary table, and, at the excellent price you are offering it at, someone is going to be very happy.
