Wharfedale W90D - what are they worth ?

I am thinking of picking up a pair of Wharfedale W90D but have heard mixed thoughts about them.

How much should I pay if I decide to get them ? (is $200 for the pair too much ?)

What should I look for / listen for besides the obvious ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

i've got the W60E's and i couldn't be more impressed w/a $20/pr goodwill find. the ones you are contemplating are probably a step up or more, so it's a matter of price and condition. look for obvious damage to the boxes and drivers(one of mine had a tweeter dome cracked-some kind of thin plastic film stuff). see if refoaming is an issue-what's the age of the units? close examination will give you some leverage upon the real issue(to my mind, at least)here, price. i'd like to hear $100(without having seen them), but if they are really good, $200 wouldn't deter me.
this is probably pretty much off the wall and not much real help, but perhaps it will help get things rolling. good luck.

I realize this thread is old, but there is very little information on the speakers. I was able to pick a pair of w90D up for $200 recently from an older gentleman who claimed he bought them new. I did not have time to look these up I just knew I had to buy them. Ive been collecting hi-fi for the last 15 years. I hooked them up to my Marantz 2252b and I cannot believe the sound that comes out of them. I immediately threw on some late 60s lounge music. It felt like being at a wedding and listening to a live band. The base is full and rich. The sound stage is throwing stuff all over the room,by far the warmest speakers I’ve ever owned, friends have also made the same comment about the warmth. don’t get me wrong you’re not going to throw Zepplin on and crank it up and it sound good no no no these are for sitting back and relaxing with some nice acoustical jazz or classical. Blues sound great. In other words, if you can even find these speakers knowing what I know now I would easily pay five to $600 for them.sooo heavy though and also need tilted up a bit.

Look up the late Gang-Twanger's posts (RIP, friend). He was a heavy proponent of these very speakers.

Also, if they are stock, a recap will wake them up considerably.

That's a great find for 200 bones, and welcome to Audiokarma.

A friend got a free pair of the Pro version E90's around 2012. He passed away in 2016 and his widow sold them to a nearby flipper for $650CAD. Shortly thereafter I saw them on display in a local used record / vintage HiFi shop with a price tag of $850CAD. I did not frequent that shop much but those E90's were still there and unsold two years later.
