Been very busy today. But just read an interesting article in The Guardian that is tangentially AK related.

Scientists re-discovered recordings of whale song from 1949, which is 20 years earlier than the current oldest known extant recording.

It's important for a variety of reasons, but here's the audio related part (emphasis added by me):

Oldest-known whale song recording provides new insight into ocean sounds whole thing for anyone who cares to read.

Here's a link to the audio:

Heres what the machine looks like:

It would apparently work by cutting grooves into soft vinyl/plastic as it recorded. Wow! Like the world's first CD burner, ha ha.

There are a lot of variations of old portable record cutting machines out there. Most cutting heads were in mono & most need a lot of work today to revive them. But there are a bunch of guys out in the world doing lathe cuts with them still. With mixed results of course.

Hey AK! Spent the day getting blood drawn then prescriptions filled. Prior to doctors appointment coming up.

Had another crash day.

The fuzzy barometer and t-storm warnings every few hours didn’t help last night either…

Sigh.

Now is time for the temperature to drop like stone (not the rolling variety).

Hope your day is going well!

Good luck with the lab numbers and the MD visit!
