What is the REAL British Sound? (ATC content)

I've always wanted a pair of Linton speakers since I first heard them. Unfortunately I've never stumbled on the right pair. I did find a pair of Monitor Audio Gold 10's for a price too good to pass up and they really impressed me. One of the best sounding and easiest to listen to speakers that I own. And the finish is beautiful as well.

As a transplanted Brit I am sitting here enjoying a nice cuppa tea. Mention of 500cc thumpers bring back memories of my Velocette Venom. As to speakers I lucked into a pair of Fried R ll monitors. Basically a KEF Concerto with an upgraded crossover. A T27, B110 and B139 in a semi line tunnel box and the speakers are still available from Falcon. Can listen to them for hours!

I was watching a TV documentary about British people living and working in the USA.

The programme featured some interesting things that British people achieved over there, such as having funny car number plates.

One car number plate read ‘BOLLOX’ and the other was ‘TEABAG’. Frightfully amusing!

I say Eric Burdon and the Animals when Eric had a voice: " I Believe to my Soul " from Goldies 3 CD set track 6 Disc 2 Mr. Bill
I was going to say The Kinks, The Who, Gerry & The Pacemakers and the Dave Clark Five...

I’m a Klipsch guy that’s somewhat Klipsch’d out. I grew up with Advents, DQ-10’s, AR-11’s and Magnapans. Discovered Klipsch in 2000, and have owned most of them including UG Jubilees. After 20 years, I was just ready for something different. I also wanted to shrink down my listening area and get more into intimate listening sessions. I got tired of ‘LOUD’ a long time ago. So, how to get detail, clarity and dynamics at sane listening levels.

ATC kept coming up in my reading. The brand seemed to check all of the boxes. I decided to buy a set of SCM20PSL. These are the passive pro versions. I already had two SVS SB2000 sealed subs, so I wasn’t worried about the lack of deep bass response.

These may be “British”, but they definitely don’t have the British sound. They are smooth, clean and dynamic. They have more in common with the world I come from, but without the fatigue.

After six years with the passives, I got the itch to upgrade, and was gravitating towards Cornwall IV or Forte IV. Instead, I ended up with a set of SCM20ASL and Rotel RC-1590 MKii preamp. So now I’m active and fully balanced. More of the same but better, which is a good thing. These are serious loudspeakers. So if you want British without the British - highly recommended.
