Which Others Cartridges to the "Dynavector 10x5" for Sound Quality

Hi,

Which others cartridges can be compared to the "Dynavector 10x5", just curious, Grado, Ortofon, Shure and more.

Thank you

Any cartridge can be compared. I think the question is too vague for any meaningful answer. Maybe you could elaborate?

What table do you have? The cost of the 10x5 is actually very reasonable as high quality stereo gear goes, assuming you have a high grade turntable and arm to begin with. The Dynavector will tend to have a dead flat response, in the +/- 1dB-1.5dB range. ALong with very low noise and excellent tracking. I don't know of any other carts with that specific type of flat response and other qualities at lower prices. The DL-110 Denon has a downward treble slope, about -2dB at 10Khz, and 3 or 4dB down at about 16Khz, which is going to make it sound different from the Dynavector, but it's comparable otherwise, in quality, noise, etc. and at a much lower price. Many carts have a treble exaggeration. But a slight gradual slope downward can actually make many recordings sound more natural/realistic on most speaker systems. Maybe someone else can suggest a cart that is near identical in all response properties to the 10x5 and cheaper.

I meant can be considered in the same category, similar, league or performance.

Thanks

I suppose you could look at the high-output moving-coil cartridges at similar price points, like Benz MC, Clearaudio Aurum Alpha, Goldring Eroica H, Sumiko Blue Point Special, etc. There are also some good moving-magnet cartridges in that price range, like Goldring 1042, Ortofon 2M Bronze, Nagaoka MP-300, Audio-Technica AT150MLX.

Compare in what way? Resonant frequency, compliance, stylus type, output, mass, price, sound characteristics? It would be helpful to understand your requirements....

I have a AT-150mlx and the 10x5 and they really are just very different in all but price. That's why it's so difficult to answer this question...though I understand why it was asked. If you like the 10x5...get the 10x5. It is an excellent cartridge. I bought mine as a stop-gap cartridge for my VPI Classic until I splurg for one of the Benz LOMC, but I have to say...I am in no hurry at all to do that. I absolutely love this cartridge. The AT is a nice cartridge, too, but its nearly impossible for me to make a comparison as it's never been on my VPI, and has sounded quite different from one table to another when I've moved it around.

Agreed. I was tempted to say, if you like the 10x5 it cannot be beaten in this price range. But the same holds true of the AT150MLX if you like it.

It all comes down to taste.

I had a Goldring 1012 GX and compared it directly to a Denon DL-110.

The Goldring was brighter and threw out a huge soundstage forward of the speakers.

The Denon was much more laid back but smoother, with more inner detail.

The difference being one is MM and the other MC.

I think that would be the difference between the AT-150mlx and 10x5.

Having moved from an AT150MLx to its LOMC relative, the AT-OC9MLII, I am left with the opinion that the OC9 is a much more transparent, refined and well-behaved cartridge than the 150. But maybe LOMCs are not the subject of this thread. Just want to say that anyone thinking about the 150 ought to get an OC9 instead since they are around the same price and assuming your rig can handle a low output cartridge.

I'm very leery of offering advice on this subject due to the difference in equipment being used.
Regards,
Jim

A guy over at vinyl engine has thrown up wave clips of about 40 different carts , the Dyna is one of them . If you have the time you might find something similar in sound ? anyway it's a great resource as where can you get to hear carts before you buy and they range in price from $60 up to whatever . I think is name is davey . There was a link on here somewhere ?
