Woofer repair in Infinity RS-4b

Super Member
The Karma was with me this morning when I picked up a beautiful pair of Infinity RS-4b from the local Craigslist thanks to the advice of fellow AudioKarma members! You can read all about this little adventure here. Thing is, the woofers need some work, and I have never done any work on speakers other than hooking them up to an amp. :music:

Can you guys guide me to what I need to read and then do to get these babies singing again?

I just did a set I had with a kit from fleaBay for 22.00 including shipping.
They worked perfectly.
PM if you are interested in details.

Paging Dr. ReEdger, ReEdger to the Speaker Forum...

They just need foam. Nothing special, not too difficult. A light touch, a bit of glue, and the right surrounds is all you need.

Fantastic score.

I just did a pair of Infinities with similar woofers. I recommend gluing the new surround to the basket first, and then to the cone. This in the opposite of what I usually do. There's very little clearance between the gasket and the surround roll to allow you to center the voice coil. I had to trim one of the gaskets to make it fit without pushing the surround out of shape.

Let's assume we have a real dummy here who now knows that he needs to 'refoam', but has only the haziest of idea what that might mean. Are there step-by-step instructions for refoaming to be found on this site or anywhere else online? :stupid:

I can send you the link where I got mine if you want. it comes with little shims to slip into the voice coil so there are zero chances for problems.
The directions are perfect and VERY step by step.

That sounds like just what I need. Please send the link. Many thanks.
